Guest BigRed2010 Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/blog/brett-mcmurphy/18923863 Who knows how all this will shake out???? Maybe LU still has a chance at Sun Belt................. Quote
Who Dat Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 that looks like UTA and Texas State heading to the Sun Belt Quote
coachacola Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 I read the Benson wanted Charlotte for the Sun Belt (big market). Maybe they'll try to get Appy State and/or Georgia Southern. New Mexico State wants in the Sun Belt too, will they get in? They seem to be out of the Sun Belt footprint. I still say Lamar's only chance to get in is if the Sun Belt wants a western team to balance out an eastern team and NMSU is too far west. Quote

I think Lamar has to want in and I dont feel like they want it right now. If Simmons went all in and tried there may be a shot. Quote

Appy State and Georgia Southern to Sun Belt for a 12/14 mix. LU left out. I just don't think NMSU will be included in the Sun Belt. Everything I've read, they are going to stay in the southeast and Texas. Quote
geezer Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 I think that NMSU and the remaining WAC schools should add LU and SAM to replace UTSA and figure out a way to stay relevent as an FBS Conference. LU would need to drop the we're to good for this conference attitude. If my memory is any good, didn't LU leave the SLC with four other schools to form the American South and tried to make it as an independent Div 1 (now FBS) footbal program. Then the Am South merged to form the Sun Belt. Financial times got tough, LU football was not competitive and so LU shutdown the program, Then again supposedly for financial reasons LU left the Sun Belt and returned to the SLC expecting to be the big dog especially in basketball. That didn't work very well either. Unfortunately for the schools left in the WAC they probably are not wanted by "more prestigous" conferences simalar to posts on here about why HBU and others shouldn't be added to the SLC. If there is any interest in being an FBS school then LU should take what ever might be available. Quote

The attitude among WAC schools (except for the 3 which just left the SLC) is that LU does not belong. That means that the day we get invited and accept is the day everyone else leaves and we would then not even have the SLC to which to return. The SLC is better than the WAC at this point IMO. Quote
coachacola Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Here's some interesting tweets concerning ODU and MTSU: Contrary to @McMurphyCBS report, sources say #ODU to C-USA not done or imminent. But a distinct possibility. If Old Dominion does not accept its invitation to #CUSA, the conference may turn to #MTSU. Link: http://www.dailypress.com/sports/dp-spt-odu-cusa-0501-20120501,0,4681537.story MTSU leaving the Sun Belt would only help Lamar's chances of getting in. Quote
Guest BigRed2010 Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 I do not believe ODU will turn down Conference USA. Quote
