geezer Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Cards taking on UTRGV for the second time this year. Cards won big at RGV in December. 7:25 left in the first half and the Cards are up 22-19. Quote
geezer Posted February 9 Author Posted February 9 Lamar up by five at the half 38-33. Lamar shooting just a little better than RGV but overall a near equal game. No foul trouble for either team. Quote
geezer Posted February 9 Author Posted February 9 Lamar got up by as much as eleven points before RGV claws back to tie the game at 68 with 1.5 seconds left. Jackson throws the ball the length of the floor trying to get it to Hamilton, but the ball bounces off of the back board into Holifield's hands and he was able to make a short jumper for the win. 70-68 Quote
BigRedHoops Posted February 9 Posted February 9 The win keeps the Cards in a 3 way tie for second. I’m a long time lurker, first time poster here. I know there has been a decent amount of grumbling about the staff on here. I get fan frustration and I’m certainly not above it. But the reality is that the program has improved each year with Brooks at the helm (if you start with his first year). And the harsh reality we may not want to admit is, under the current state of college basketball and the Southland Conference, Lamar’s ceiling is second place. As long as McNeese is in the conference (I would say Will Wade but it’s more the money they are spending on NIL imo), or unless Lamar’s BMD start pumping major $ into the basketball team’s NIL, that’s just the reality. The Cowboys have a high mid major roster (with the payroll to boot - they have multiple kids getting more $ than the entire Lamar roster combined) and other than an occasional upset, you just can’t compete with that. We may not like it, or want to accept it, but that’s just the truth. Quote
SportsGuy Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Well said ^^… where is McNeese getting this dough? Quote

We certainly have a few alums (well at least 2) that could probably buy and sell their entire alum roster multiple times but I don’t think they really care about having a winning basketball team that much. Hard to complain about them though when they’ve financed almost every new structure on that campus. Quote
