Game time 3 PM Saturday.  If you didn't recognize it when the schedule came out, by now you realize from the sometimes fans point of view the season rests on how Lamar competes over the next three weeks.  The Cards blew the first big game with UIW but if they can win out then a playoff game is guaranteed and possibly a home game.  To get to the point where there are more than 10,000 attending Lamar needs to close out this season strongly.  SLU appears to be the best team in the conference not named Lamar, but they don't have to prove it by playing all of the top teams.  Lamar needs to step up a notch in all aspects of the game.

Big game, lose and LU loses any possibility of making the playoffs. A win gets us to the next big game against SFA. We are looking at finishing anywhere from 7-5 to 10-2. McNeese isn’t going to roll over in the last regular season game!  Go Cards!!

Two thirds of the way through the first quarter Lamar has had three possessions without a first down.  McCown led the first two possessions but 0-3 in pass attempts.  Coleman had the last drive and Lamar only ran the ball, granted the last possession had bad field position aggravated with a holding penalty.  SLU also went three and out on their first possession, but had a good drive on their second with three big plays stalling at the LU eight yard line.

Back and forth defensive struggle to finish the first quarter and for most of the second.  McCown took a real hard hit and went out of the game.  At the two-minute mark Lamar is on a strong drive and are in scoring position.

Touchdown Lamar with 21 seconds left in the first half on a Coleman to Hyder for nine yards and Lamar takes a 7-0 lead into the half.

SLU takes the opening drive of the second half and with a couple of big runs move the ball to the Lamar 33-yard line before settling for a fifty yard field goal to close the score to 7-3 with 11:42 left in the third quarter.

On the next possession Lamar fumble on their third play turning the ball back over to SLU at the Lamar twenty four.  Defense does a good job of holding SLU and forcing a 28-yard field goal to bring the score to 7-6 Lamar wit 8:15 remaining in the third quarter.

After giving up two field goals Lamar makes a sustained drive ending with a Bowden rushing touchdown to give Lamar a 14-6 lead with 12:42 left in the game.

On SLU's first play after receiving the kickoff Lamar makes an interception to get the ball back.  Lamar fails to move the ball and miss the field goal attempt turning the ball over to SLU at their own 31-yard line.

SLU gets a big run to get the ball into Lamar's territory but stall out and then run a fake field goal for 22-yard touchdown to bring the score to 14-12 Lamar.  Lamar stops the two-point conversion attempt.  SLU to kick off to Lamar with 7:23 left in the game.

Lamar defense holds SLU for four plays to get the ball back with under a minute and run the clock out for a 14-12 win.  Other action SFA clobbered HCU so next week's game at SFA is a chance to get back to the top of the conference.  Cards still have to win out to win the conference but may have secured a playoff spot.

Ugly win but we just beat a good football team! Defense was great outside a few big runs by SELA.

Tough luck for McCown but gutsy performance by Coleman. Great job, Cards!

McCown went out in the second quarter after a big hit and did not return.  He managed to get off the field on his own but then was down on the sidelines for quite a while.  They showed him on the sideline in the second half without his pads.  Couldn't tell from what I saw of the hit if it was a body part or a head issue.  He seemed to be in pain on his right side as he was exiting the game.

One negative I unfortunately have to point out is the lack of support southeast texas is showing this team. Worst crowd of the year and zero student section this week. We finally have a winning team and we still don’t support them . The golden triangle needs to get off its lazy ass and support this team !!!!!

Anyone surprised LU would win ugly?  Defense stepped up. Why isn't McCown playing? Is he hurt?

I am a little surprised we won, but not surprised we won ugly. SELA had the highest scoring offense in the SLC coming in to the game. Defense played great. Hoping for the same next week and for the offense to pick it up!
