This team just keeps getting worse.  Fall to UIW and now are on the verge of not making it to the conference tournament.

Let’s face it, if they do make the tournament, they are almost assured of a one a done outcome.

Well Lamar managed to run themselves out of the conference tournament with a 75-53 loss at HCU to complete an eight-game losing streak to finish the season.  Cards had five players go a combined 0-18 from the field.  Not sure anyone will want to watch Lamar basketball next year.

Brooks will probably have another "good" season right before his contract expires and he'll get another extension.

BEAUMONT, Texas – Lamar University head men's basketball coach Alvin Brooks will not be retained for the 2026-27 season announced Vice President and Director of the Athletics Jeff O'Malley Tuesday afternoon. The announcement comes following a 2025-26 season that saw Lamar post a 12-19 (.387) overall record and miss the Southland Conference Championship tournament with a 7-15 (.318) league record.
 
"I would like to personally thank Coach Brooks and his staff for their hard work and dedication to our men's basketball program," said O'Malley. "Alvin is a decorated member of the Cardinal Hall of Honor and we wish him, and his family, all the best moving forward."
 
Brooks had served as Lamar's head coach for the previous five seasons. A national search for the Cardinals' next head coach has begun.

I hear LU MBB has the 3rd highest NIL budget in the SLC… the results definitely did not equate to what leadership needed.

What direction do you think O'Malley will go for a coach?  An assistant from a successful program or a HC with a resume of success at peer or lower levels.

Our league has gotten more difficult but seeing Will Wade jump to the ACC likely raises the interest.. along with the increased NIL budget (if true).

If the NIL budget is growing that much it tells me that Brooks wasn't schmoozing like he needed- the money was there and Brooks wasn't shaking the right hands.

Honest question- is there any reason David Green hasn't been tapped in the past?
The man is 1 win away from his 5th State Semifinal in 6 years (since the "State Tournament" is now just the SCG I can't say the "State Tournament"... that's 2 wins away for him and his T-wolves)
