The Cards open this year's season at home against Oakland University out of Michigan with a three-game series starting this evening and finishing up Sunday afternoon.

Lamar is up 6-0 in the top of the eighth.  It has been foggy since about the third inning and the fog has gotten thick enough that the coaches with the umpire have suspended the game until tomorrow afternoon.  Lamar's starting pitcher, Olivier lasted 6.2 innings and looked pretty good.

Cards finish the first game with an 8-2 win and then come from behind to take a 9-7 win in the scheduled Saturday game.  Cards pitching wasn't the best early giving up two runs in both the first and second innings and a run in the third to be down 5-1 after three innings.  The Cards score at least one run in each of the next five innings including four in the bottom of the seventh.  Lamar has a chance for the sweep tomorrow.

Lamar drops the third game 3-2 giving up the winning run in the top of the tenth.  Cards had plenty of opportunities to push other runs across throughout the game but didn't get the job done.  Next game is Tuesday at Texas and then back home Wednesday with Kansas.

I saw where Texas run ruled LU last night.  Surprised that I beat someone to posting this  I am hearing that Texas is going to be really good, so I am not reading much into this for LU and their season, at least not at this point.

Lamar takes down University of Kansas at home this evening. 4-1   Cards travel to Dallas Friday to take on UT-Arlington for three games this weekend.

LU did lose their pitching coach so it might mean the pitching won't be as good this year.  The last few years they've started off strong and faded down the stretch.  I'm not judging this team just yet.

Not the start of last year, but as always if you're not in a major conference it comes down to the end of the season and the conference tournament.  Need both pitching and hitting to become more consistent.

Two weekends into the season and three mid-week games finds the Cards with a five and four record including two run rule losses to nationally ranked teams.  The Conference season will start this coming weekend.

I generally don't way in other sports except football.  I must be a bit bored.  That said, I saw where UT hammered UTRGV 14-0 in a run rule game.  At least we put up 4 runs and led for a few innings.  I wouldn't put to much stock this early in the season and against top tier competition.  Hopefully they do get progressively better as the season moves along.
