coachacola Posted Sunday at 02:39 PM Posted Sunday at 02:39 PM I bet a lot of UH fans are seeing that score and not happy with Davis being their next head coach. Was that blowout #3 against a good team? Quote
geezer Posted Sunday at 05:48 PM Posted Sunday at 05:48 PM How long has it been since the UH program was really good? That said, UH probably will have more money to spend on players and that might make a difference in what Davis can do there. I hope Lamar can announce a coach quickly as there isn't a lot of time to recruit players, although I guess you don't really have to have players in school until January. Quote

Texas knocked out Rice and part of the reason the SR was in Austin was that Disch-Falk is bigger (Houston should have contacted the Astros about having it at Minute Maid Park) Quote

lu cards Posted yesterday at 03:31 PM Author Posted yesterday at 03:31 PM Welcome Coach Allen !!!! Honor run of a hire !!!! Quote
coachacola Posted yesterday at 04:23 PM Posted yesterday at 04:23 PM Background on new LU head coach Sean Allen. USC won the regional so they're still playing and he won't come to LU until after the playoffs. **Sean Allen** is the current pitching coach (assistant coach) for the USC Trojans baseball team. He entered his second season in that role in 2026. ### Personal Background - **Born**: June 27, 1979 (age ~46 as of 2026) - **Hometown**: Carlsbad, New Mexico - **High School**: Carlsbad High School - **College**: University of Houston (played 1998–2001 as a 2B/SS, 5'10", 178 lbs) - Married to Stephanie. ### Playing and Early Coaching Career Allen played infield at Houston before transitioning quickly into coaching. He began as a student assistant with the Houston Cougars in 2002, working with infielders and coaching first base. He stayed at Houston through 2007 in various roles, contributing to strong defensive teams (nationally ranked fielding percentage in multiple seasons) and player development, including helping All-American Brad Lincoln. From 2008–2011, he was an assistant at Florida International University (FIU), serving as recruiting coordinator, pitching coach, and infield coach. He helped transform the program from a 20-36 record to 40-20-1 in his final season. ### Key Coaching Stops - **Sam Houston State, Tulane, and Texas (under David Pierce)**: Allen worked on Pierce’s staff for about a decade across these programs. At Texas (2017–2022), he started as hitting coach/recruiting coordinator (2017–2019) before switching to pitching coach/recruiting coordinator (2020–2022). Texas reached the College World Series three times during his tenure (2018, 2021, 2022). In 2021, the Longhorns led the nation with a 2.93 ERA under his guidance. - **Ohio State (2022–2024)**: Served as associate head coach, pitching coach, and co-recruiting coordinator under Bill Mosiello. Produced All-Big Ten pitchers and MLB draftees. - **USC (2024–present)**: Hired in late June 2024 by head coach Andy Stankiewicz to replace Seth Ethington. In his first season, USC’s pitching staff ranked top-30 nationally in WHIP and top-35 in hits per nine and strikeout-to-walk ratio. They made their first postseason appearance in a decade, with multiple All-Big Ten honorees and a draftee (Caden Hunter, 6th round). ### Accolades and Reputation - **2021 D1Baseball National Assistant Coach of the Year** (while at Texas). - Highly regarded recruiter and developer of pitchers (and previously hitters/infielders). - Teams have made ~15 postseason appearances (including 3 College World Series trips) in his 23+ seasons as an assistant. - Praised for relationship-building, staff management, and understanding the national recruiting landscape. Allen is active on X/Twitter as **@SeanAllen3**. He has a versatile background (hitting coach turned elite pitching coach) and strong ties to Texas baseball, but he has embraced the move to USC’s tradition-rich program. Note: As of June 2026, there were reports of him being hired as head coach at Lamar University after a strong season with USC, but he remains listed as USC’s pitching coach heading into 2026. 1 Quote
NorthoftheBorder Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago This guy sounds like the real deal! He's 46 with significant collegiate baseball experience. Hopefully LU has hit a home run with this hire. Would love to see him make us forget about Gilligan, who had one hell of a career at Lamar! Quote
NorthoftheBorder Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago From the LU Athletics Website BEAUMONT, Texas – Regarded as one of the top assistant coaches in the country, and the 2021 Division1Baseball National Assistant Coach of the Year, Sean Allen has been named Lamar University head baseball coach announced Vice President and Director of Athletics Jeff O'Malley Tuesday morning. "I am very excited to be making this announcement," said O'Malley. "We had a very deep pool of candidates and after an exhaustive national search one person jumped to the top of the list, Sean Allen. We are ecstatic to be adding someone of Sean's caliber and reputation to the Cardinal family. He has coached at the highest levels of collegiate athletics, and I believe he will add to the rich tradition that is Lamar baseball." Allen's résumé includes three trips to the College World Series, six NCAA Super Regionals (including 2026 with the USC Trojans) and 16 total NCAA Regional appearances. In addition to being recognized as the nation's top assistant coach following the 2021 season, he was hired at Ohio State in 2022 which was ranked No. 4 among D1Baseball's Top 30 Assistant Coach Hires. Just two years later, Allen was named to the top 100 Assistant Coaches Athletic Directors Should Know list. In his 25 years in the dugout, Allen has helped produced 82 MLB draftees, 18 All-Americans (including six Freshman All-Americans), 13 big league players, seven conference player/pitchers of the year, three Golden Spikes Award finalist, two Dick Howser Award winners (Ivan Melendez and Brad Lincoln) and one Golden Spikes Award winner (Melendez). Allen comes to Beaumont after spending the previous two seasons at Southern Cal where he produced one of the most feared pitching staffs in all of baseball and helped guide the Trojans to an 83-39 (.680) overall record and a 38-22 (.633) conference mark. The Trojans' 2026 pitching staff ranked second nationally in hits per nine innings, fourth in earned run average and WHIP, 27th in strikeouts per nine innings and led the Big Ten in opponent batting average. "I am deeply honored and excited to be named head baseball coach at Lamar University," said Allen. "From my first conversation with Dr. Taylor and Jeff O'Malley, I was impressed by their alignment, leadership and vision; not only for the baseball program but for the future of Lamar University as a whole. Their belief in what this program can achieve made this an opportunity I was honored to accept. "I am incredibly grateful to Dr. Taylor and Jeff for entrusting me with the responsibility of leading this program and continuing the winning tradition that has been established. We share a vision of building upon that foundation and pushing Cardinal baseball to new heights," added Allen. No stranger to the state of Texas or the Southland Conference, Allen spent six seasons on staff with the Texas Longhorns and three seasons at Sam Houston. Serving as both a hitting coach and pitching coach during his time in Austin, he helped guide the Longhorns to four postseason berths and three College World Series appearances (postseason was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID Pandemic). During his three seasons as the Longhorns' pitching coach, six Longhorn pitchers were selected in the MLB Draft – including 2020 All-American and fifth round selection Bryce Elder who is currently a member of the Atlanta Braves' starting rotation and a former MLB All-Star – and eight position players (during his time as hitting coach). Allen has also made coaching stops at Florida International, Tulane and his alma mater Houston where he was a standout on the diamond leading the Cougars to three consecutive postseason appearances including a Super Regional. "I also want to thank my wife, Stephanie, along with my family and friends, who have supported me throughout this journey," said Allen. "Their encouragement, sacrifice and unwavering belief in me have meant everything. I would not be where I am today without their love and support, and I am grateful to share this opportunity with them. "We will work tirelessly to recruit, develop and support student-athletes who will represent Lamar University in a first-class manner both on and off the field. Our goal is to build a program that our university, alumni and community can be proud of while putting an exciting brand of baseball on the field that competes for championships. I cannot wait to get to Beaumont and meet our players, fans, alumni and supporters. The future is bright and I am excited to get to work. Go Cards," added Allen. Lamar will hold an introductory press conference at date yet to be determined. Quote
