Guest CardAmbassador Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 I know there was technically a unofficial depth chart at QB after last years spring practices. But it wasn't concrete and everything started from scratch again in the fall. I'm surprised there hasn't been any reaction yet after the depth chart was announced. I remember last offseason we averaged a few post a day about not having a starting QB set. So Ryan Mossakowski is the starter and Berry is the back up for now. This definitely doesn't say things are over, but it's good to go ahead and put it on paper that you have 1 guy over the other, this will make Berry work harder over the summer. It will also give at least 1 guy confidence instead of leaving a guy without any certainty of where he stands. I for one really liked what little I heard of Berry, I'm just happy we have this settled for now. Quote
LUSportsFan Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 I thought it was good that we had a one and two. The order might still change down the road, but it's still good to start out. Quote
geezer Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 You would probably see more posts if Johnson had stayed. For at least a few of the posters he was there favorite son. Last year there were so many people who were disatisfied with Bevil's first years performance and impressed with what Prewitt did at the end of the year that several did not want to see Bevil back as the starter and that created a lot of the debate. This year the only one you have back is Berry and while I was impressed with his toughness during the McNeese game I don't think many have a strong opinion of what he might bring so most are more willing to wait and watch. Guest CardAmbassador Posted May 27, 2012 Posted May 27, 2012 I know what you mean about last year. I was one of those that was not pleased when it was announced that Bevil would start again, but I wanted to spend my time supporting the team so I forgot about it, and in the end I think it was the right decision anyways. I'm glad that none of our current QB's are from SETX, hopefully it will mean less controversy there. I agree that it's still anyone job, I just like this more decisive approach instead of dancing around the issue for too long like last year. Quote
Guest LU 17 Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 Hey, whoever is the starter at QB will have earned it. I'm not worried about this. I will let the coaches figure this out. It sounds like it's a problem that's a good thing. Competition is a good thing. Quote

Guest CardAmbassador Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 Not to hard to choose when you only have 2 to pick from Woodard announced before JJ left there would be a 2 deep depth chart released this year. 8) Quote
coachacola Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 The three QBs we had last year made for the perfect QB controversy. I'm a little surprised that Woodard said he still plans on redshirting the freshman QB from Louisiana since last year the team was down to their 4th string QB in the last game. Quote

Yes, that was last year, and a rare occurrence. A coach can redshirt someone all year long until they need them. It's not like by choosing to redshirt him we lose access to him if we really need him, it just burns his red shirt. I don't see any issue with it. Quote
puddin tane Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 i see on the 'roster' we have a qb from east chambers... Quote
coachacola Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 i see on the 'roster' we have a qb from east chambers... When did transfer to Lamar? Wasn't he a preferred walk-on at TCU last year? Quote

Yeah I must have not been paying attention, I don't remember that announcement but we have him on the BRI roster. Quote
Guest bigred360 Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 I agree with the depth chart at this point but that is subject to change with a competitive competition during the start of fall drills. Quote
panchovilla Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 How many of you guys think the fish that's coming in will give these guys a run for their money? I think he will the more I sit and think about it Quote

Guest eagle eye Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 The more the merrier. The good programs have depth out the wazoo and the also-rans don't. Our goal is to have quality to choose from and let the cream rise to the top. The biggest controversies start when you have QBs that have different skill sets. Runner vs pocket passer, etc. Can someone explain why when we announce two new coaches half of our O line transfers? Whaddup? Or is my info bogus? Quote
Guest CardAmbassador Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Can someone explain why when we announce two new coaches half of our O line transfers? Whaddup? Or is my info bogus? Not sure, maybe the coaches forced them out, or maybe McKnight forced them out. I had personally never heard a bad word about Campbell before he transferred, the only criticism is that he was overweight. Oden on the other hand, while he was never in trouble with the Law, I did hear more than once that his attitude was not the easiest to coach. The same thing happened when Coach Knight took over Roc's recruits. I think it's natural. And from what I heard about the way coach Knight handled things when he came in I hope the situation is similar. Knight found out if the players were with him real quick, if they weren't he let them go. Quote

I doubt the coaches deliberately ran off Campbell and Oden, but I assume they are expecting a lot more from the players and these two didn't want to stick around for that. Quote
