What is he then, just someone with size? Please we cannot recruit like this. jmho

If the kid has the ability to play quarterback, he can play a lot of other positions. With his size, he could make a very good wide receiver or tight end or a defensive end. I think this is a good strategy in recruiting. The quarterback position requires a good athlete to play the position. I'm all for getting the best athletes we can on our team. I see nothing wrong with recruiting this kid.

I agree. QB'S are usually your most athletic players and can play multiple positions.

I somewhat agree, but only in high school. College is a different sport. What other positions would Lamar's current #1 &#2 QBs play? The bench!!!!!!!!!!!

Lamar has multiple players that were high school QB's that are now playing different positions for the Cards. Chad Allen. Payton Ploch, Kye Hildreth all were high school QB's.

No way in the world that kid rubs a 4.4

I agree. He didn't show anywhere that kind of speed against Silsbee in the first game of season.

AJ Smith cant run a 4.4 in the 20 yd dash. i was at the silsbee vs png game 2weeks ago and he looked pretty slow in his delivery and on his feet. there was nothing quick about him.

I think AJ Smith runs a 4.4 40 so the kid is fast.

No way it is 4.4. IMO that is really an almost worthless stat. anyway. Especially if run on a FB field in cleats with a running start. So many time it differently.

I'm not sure which recruiting site I saw that on but since everyone who has seen him in person disagrees with it then it's probably not true.

I believe 40 yd times as much as I believe the heights of BB players in the media programs. I believe lateral quickness & acceleration are much more important in football, but the guys with the baseball cap on, holding a clip board & stop watch, don't have clue on how to measure that.

I remember that one day in the early '80s, Lamar was timing their FB players in the 40 prior to spring practice. On of the "distance" runners on the track team jumped in and had the fastest time because he was fairly small & ran quick in a straght line; but the guy had no FB talent and really not considered fast at all.

Marcus Jackson as mentioned is the perfect example of why it's good to recruit HS QBs. I'm surprised we're having this debate.

As for the guys speed I don't know what he runs, if he has a good career at PNG then maybe we want him, you need to be a winner too.

aj is a good kid.ive watched him since 7th grade and he's definetly struggled playing football.he's got the body to play college football but not sure he has the desire.the ol reasons is the only kid on the team that can play football at the next level.aj would be a project that may could play de or te.

There are a lot of positions that a high school qb might transition to in college but probably not the one LU needs the most help with which is OL or DL. There are not many high school qbs in the 250 to 270 or bigger range, and I don't believe you will grow one from someone lighter.

Actually, OL would probably be the best place for him.

You are talking out your rear end. You obviously haven't seen him play. He has nowhere near the athletic ability of Marcus Jackson. Also, this reminds me a little of the Nederland QB we signed last year because he was big and "athletic". Just because you are black doesn't automatically mean you are athletic. The kid from Nederland was probably more athletic than this PNG kid and he still had no business getting a scholarship from us.

If you read my post you will see that I never compared him to Marcus Jackson, that's why I spoke of him in a separate paragraph...

I know someone very close to me who ran a legit 4.4. Here is part of a conversation with a recruiter from a former Big XII school. Recruiter, "I was hoping you were bigger." Athlete, "well, if you are recruiting anyone stronger, lead his team in every offensive, defensive and most special team categorizes plus runs a 4.4 forty let me know." Recruiter, "can you run that now?" Athlete, "Did you bring your stopwatch." lol
