coastalman Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Just for clarification purposes, BPT is not considered in the Houston market. Yes, Houston is tenth, but BPT is listed at 141. Although it's nice every now & then to lump us in with Houston, (which could be widely beneficial), the fact remains, we're 141. http://www.nielsen.com/content/dam/corporate/us/en/public%20factsheets/tv/nielsen-2012-local-DMA-TV-penetration.pdf Quote

TBonesLU Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Any word on if the Catholic 7 leaving the BE would have any direct or indirect effects that could trickle down? http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/9031167/catholic-7-leaving-big-east-june-30 Quote
Guest Crawfish Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 This is what the latest rumors: WKU is out (to C-USA) as Tulsa leaves for (yet to be named) conference. Ga Southern and App. State are next up with NMSU still waiting. Ragin Cajuns are finally pushing to get out next, but who knows when the opportunity will come. The President has made his intentions known to get into a better conference in the Lafayette Daily Advertiser in the Sunday edition (March 24) What a soap opera this conference realignment is turning into is Quote
coachacola Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 I'm hearing that Appalachian State and Georgia Southern will be invited this week. Quote
Guest Crawfish Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 That is what I understand also. I think GSU has already announceed a press conference for Wednesday. Quote

Guest BigRed2010 Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Sun Belt will grow by four in 2014. App State, Georgia Southern, football only NMSU and Idaho http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/blog/dennis-dodd/21949121/sun-belt-will-grow-by-four-in-2014- Quote
dacards Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Yeah, it doesn't look so hot for Lamar's chances unless another team moves from the SBC to CUSA or the new Big East whatever it's gonna be called. Oh well. Not like we've been competing to well in the Southland this year anyways. Quote
dacards Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 And the next domino has moved. http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/id/9100852/tulsa-golden-hurricane-join-big-east-according-sources So this leaves SBC with 12, the future Big East with 12 and C-USA with 13. They could stay at 13 but it seems conferences like to have even numbers so maybe a SBC member moves to CUSA for better competition and what not, which would open a spot for another school in SBC as they want 12. Since the big names have been taken, you'd think Lamar would be near the top for consideration...all speculation on my part of course. Quote
jdcurran235 Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I just cant believe they grabbed idaho. I would never have thought that idaho would be taken over LU. Shows how little we know of the inner workings of conference realignment. Quote
Guest BigRed2010 Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 It's pretty amazing the Sun Belt would take Idaho. It's hard as hell to get to and 1900 miles to Arlington Tx (1450 miles to Las Cruces NM), no tv market, no hotbed for recruiting (any sport!), not good in any sport, a stadium that seats 15,000 for football and can't be expanded. WTF Quote
coachacola Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 The Sun Belt is taking Idaho and NMSU as football-only members, and that would balance the 2 non-football members (UTA and UALR). I think a big reason they took them is because they are already FBS and didn't want to add even more FCS schools all at once. What's funny about all this is as more schools change conferences, the more things stay the same. The MWC has a bunch of WAC schools, CUSA has a bunch of Sun Belt schools, and the Big East has a bunch of CUSA schools. If Lamar were to eventually move to the Sun Belt who knows what other schools will be in there, probably none of the old SLC schools from the 70s. Quote
Guest BigRed2010 Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Tulsa is apparently going to the Big East. CUSA could make several FCS schools happy if they took Western Kentucky, Ark State, and Louisiana-Lafayette. That would give CUSA sixteen schools and open up three more spots in the Sun Belt. You would think Lamar would be one of the three. But then again, who knows what the Sun Belt would do. They took Idaho and NMSU. :o http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/blog/jeremy-fowler/21953312/old-big-east-expected-to-move-on-tulsa Quote
jdcurran235 Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I just hope we dont get stuck in the SLC. Quote
coachacola Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I think eventually LU and SHSU will join the Sun Belt after ULL and Ark. State leave. Quote

WTF I am sure with their past relationship with Benson that helped their cause! Also, lets face it right now we are not as attractive as our two marquee men's sports are pretty well down. Hopefully that changes and fast!! Quote
geezer Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Who is to say that once all of the "" realignment is complete the NCAA and FBS power conferences don't realign the requirements to be a FBS conference. Not that I am suggesting one way or another but is the WAC officially dead as a FBS conference in football? If LU really wants to be FBS it needs to find some big time money and get to C-USA or the Mountain West. LU needs a T Boone Pickens type of donor. Quote
dacards Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 In case you didn't see as suspected, WKU is going to Conference USA. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/blog/dennis-dodd/21988889/western-kentucky-formally-joins-conference-usa James Madison is next in line per that article and a SI one. Quote
jdcurran235 Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 I just feel like we will continue to get passed up. I am not very optimistic of our chance of going to the sunbelt. There seems to be some sort of stigma attached to LU that makes us a bad upgrade option for whatever reason. Quote

BigNasty92 Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 I just sense a lot of "like to be.." instead of a lot of "WANT to be..." when it comes to us moving up. I know winning can certainly breed passion but I'm just not seeing or feeling any. I'm sure the powers that be are provided candid feedback when they have their meetings with the conference brass about what it takes to be considered by them, things that need to be improved, etc. The university seems to have always held their cards close to the vest when it comes to intentions of moving up. We have never made the big public push to start the process and troop rallying that you see out of other schools wanting to advance their athletic divisions. So..I just have a gut feeling that the administration knows that we are not in a position to do it right now. So, they are content with letting the rumor mills turn and yahoos like us talk about the what ifs. Oh well.. as much as I would like to see nothing more than us move up in ranks, this rollercoaster ride has gotten old... In spite of everything, I do know 2 things for sure... 1. I will ALWAYS be a proud Lamar Cardinal and 2. SHSU will ALWAYS suck. Quote
jdcurran235 Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Havent even heard about LU in the twitterverse!! It would be nice to just hear our named mentioned. Everyone seems to think SHSU and Liberty are better choices. Doesn't make any sense. Sorry SHSU peeps I just think LU is better prepared facility wise. Quote
