Noticed that the starting lineups have pretty much stayed the same.

On offense Harrington is now the starter. Ploch is listed as the backup but he didn't play last week. What's up with that? Dillon Barrett is starting at tight end instead of McVey for the 3rd straight week. On defense Mike Hargis is now starting instead of Jestin White.

Coach Kueck doesn't have a clue of what to do with the offense. I can't remember the last time we had a back to go over 100 yds. and if we ever had one. Can someone tell me who this Dillion Barrett is?

Dillon Barrett is a transfer from Fort Scott (Kansas) Jr College. He played quarterback at Grant High School (Dry Prong, LA - just north of Alexandria). He came to us with 4 years of eligibility. He red shirted at Fort Scott. He signed with us in June, 2012 and played in two games as backup QB last year.

Looking at the Southland scores, I saw opponents like Montana State, Missouri State and Samford. Those teams appear to be somewhere around the the competition level we should see in conference. It would be good to schedule some teams like that. It's OK to open with a cream puff but a team should build toward conference. An OSU, A&M, ect., may be necessary for financial reasons but you shouldn't have more than one Bacone in a season.

I thought Bacone was better than Okie Pot Holder St. But that isn't saying a whole lot.

Nevertheless, i thought i saw improvement.

1. Run productivity up

2. Our punter kicking a 60 yard punt from our own endzone. Awesome

3. Berry continues to impress

4. Cant say enough good things about the D.

Alot of talk on here about play calling.

I thought play calling to be good on both sides of ball.

Offense: i loved the call where we had 6 wideouts with just 3 down line lineman. This formation caused the defense to call a time out. I would have liked seeing that play run. Nevertheless positive outcome from coaching

Defense: bacone had a 3rd down and 7 from their own 3 i think. Bradley called a blitz package forcing the safety and subsequently completely taking control of the game.

Overall team grade: A-

Don't forget that Bacone was a late fill in the hole left when Georgia State backed out of the return game. I agree that LU should try to build to where playing a school in a lower division is an exception rather than the rule. By the same token I am not sure that scheduling a potential top ten FBS school is worth it either.

Ray doesn't take a chance to punch in another score just before half. Why is my question? LU let's the last 30 seconds of clock run out from the 8-10 yard line in the first half.

May be wrong, but I thought it was calling off the dogs. That's the only way I can rationalize not even going for a field goal with the wind.

There was plenty of time remaining so there were a lot of options to score.

Maybe he was afraid of being accused of trying to run up the score by Nickels. :)

Since there was plenty of time remaining, I don't think there's any doubt that he intentionally let the clock run out.

My gut feel is that as Woodard put Mossakowski out to start the second half he wanted to be able to run the 'full offense' with him and going up 43-0 would make throwing the ball in the second half look bad. Therefore, he chose to give away the scoring opportunity in the first half in order to be able to keep running the regular offense for Mossakowski's first few series. Just MHO.

As a player you can only play the games on your schedule and as a head coach you need to schedule to the best of your ability games to prepare for conference. Since I was not involved in negotiating games for the LU football team I believe Coach Woodard did his best. Montana, Montana State nor Missouri State will not come to Beaumont for a home and home series. I promise you. If they are going to travel they are looking for a bigger check than Lamar can pay. I guess Coach could have scheduled them right before conference. I personally don't think that game just before playing SHSU next week would have been a positive.

Typically there is no payout for a home and home series. If Montana St was willing to go to SFA last week, why wouldn't they be willing to come to Beaumont. I think getting that kind of team to Beaumont is about other considerations and takes scheduling further in the future.
