LU Cardinal Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 We've all seen Coach Woodard take chances on big school kids that have been dismissed or transferred from bigger schools in the past, do any of you think or would you want him to give one of these kids a chance at Lamar if it fills a position of need? i know Id love to see him contact Joe Bergeron from UT if he's indeed dismissed from the Longhorns. He'd be a huge bruising RB for the Cards and dominate the SLC. What do you guys think? Quote
coachacola Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 I heard Joe Bergeron may be transfering to Texas State. Quote
Mike Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 I heard Joe Bergeron may be transfering to Texas State. He's a senior, Texas State is FBS so he'd have to sit out a year to play there. Rumors on UT forums is West Texas A&M. Ray should use any UT pull he has and see if he has interest. I agree it would depend on why he was let go, and #2 I also agree with the OP he'd be a force in the SLC. Quote
NorthoftheBorder Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Saw on another board from a Tx State fan that most of the chatter related to the dismissed UT players have them coming to LU!! Don't know if anyone else has any info that backs this up!! Quote
lu cards Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 if its the right fit then I hope it works out.we probably had the fewest amount of transfers in the slc the last few years so maybe a couple wont hurt our chemistry. Quote
Mike Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Ill say that I've heard from a reliable source that LU will gauge the interest of the former RB from UT mentioned by the OP above Joe Bergeron. With Woodards past link to UT maybe he can find out the issues the kid had and see if he's worth giving another shot if Bergeron had interest in coming here. Quote
NorthoftheBorder Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Overstreet, Collins and Bergeron were all mentioned by name as possible headed to Beaumont!! Quote
lu cards Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 Collins I could see since he's from Livingston and weve had some players from there at lu. Quote
KABrother88 Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 From what I've read Collins is a little bit of a headcase...UT people have said he was like that even when he was at Livingston...that being said this might be a wake up call to him...I saw him play against Nederland in 2012 and honestly wasn't overly impressed...of course he was at QB because he was a good athlete on a team that ran slot-t kind of offense and their OL was outclassed by a DL that put 3 guys at the FBS/FCS level Bergeron would probably be a good compliment to the shift Harrington...losing Ploch to graduation while not adding a player with that skill set is a blow to our offense Overstreet is a guy who would still have 3 years if he came and has some good athletic ability (listed as both a QB and RB in his time in Austin) to go along with good size for a RB In the end I just hope Woodard and Co. do their due diligence and make sure these guys fit into the program and will stay out of trouble...last thing I want is another Anthony Oden or Hershel Sims to piss away an opportunity like this Quote
Cplatt Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 I think you will see one of two players filter in but i relying on that as a way to compete for higher than 6th is wishful thinking. By the way i love the new website guys, love the conversation this board has. Good knowledgeable people. thanks guys Cplatt Quote
KABrother88 Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Bergeron will play his final season at TAMU-Commerce, Collins will play 2014 at Navarro and attempt to make it back to an FBS team, and Overstreet has landed at Sam Quote
LetItGo Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Hey guy, I would have loved to see Bergeron in a Lamar uniform He's the type of player to get butts in the seats, Chief. Hey gang, we need a special player like that. Who's the most gifted athlete on the roster? Quote
coachacola Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Woodard said last week to not expect any more FBS transfers this year. Quote

Hey gang, we need a special player like that. Who's the most gifted athlete on the roster? Gotta be Johnson, Roberts, or Begelton, huh? I originally thought to include Berry, but quarterbacks don't typically exude athleticism to me as much as a WR or safety. That's not to take away from Berry at all...I just think most quarterbacks would be hard-pressed to be as athletic as his receivers and secondary. With that said, I am glad we have a QB who has proven himself to be the guy for the job. Berry has definitely earned it, and he should be proud of what he's accomplished in staying for four years to get what's his. It's nice to not have a bona fide QB battle this year. While the backups are vying for the 2-spot, I'm proud we have a guy like Berry to move forward with the season. Quote
