coachacola Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 BEAUMONT, Texas - After a season-opening victory at home against Grambling State, the Lamar Cardinals hit the road for their first game away from Provost Umphrey Stadium this season. The Cardinals will step up in competition Saturday traveling to College Station, Texas to take on No. 9 Texas A&M. The Aggies come into Saturday's contest after an impressive 52-28 victory over then No. 9 South Carolina. "We're happy to be 1-0 heading into this game against Texas A&M," said head coach Ray Woodard. "I don't think I can say anything about these guys that hasn't already been said after watching their season-opener. Simply put, they are impressive on field. They were arguably the most impressive team in the first weekend of the season. They came out and made a statement in their first game that they are a team to contend with on a national level. "A&M has incredible talent at every position, and Coach Kevin Sumlin does a great job getting his team ready to play every week. One of the most impressive things about them is that they play determined football. A&M presents an incredible challenge for any team," added Woodard. http://www.lamarcardinals.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/090414aaa.html LU Game Notes: http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/lama/sports/m-footbl/auto_pdf/2014-15/release/release_20140902aaa.pdf Aggie Game Notes: http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/lama/sports/m-footbl/auto_pdf/2014-15/release/release_20140905aaa_tam.pdf Live Audio: http://www.iheart.com/live/AM-560-KLVI-2197/?cid=main.html&pname=657&campid=play_bar&autoplay=true SEC Network: http://espn.go.com/watchespn/index/_/id/1973174/College-Football-Lamar-vs-Texas-A&M Live Stats: http://www.12thman.com/liveStats/liveStats.dbml?ATCLID=209623717&SPID=93232&DB_OEM_ID=27300&LIST_SPORT_KEY=M_FOOTBALL Quote

Card Nation Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Zaleon gets it. Honestly, this game is for the most part meaningless to both teams. My message to A&M... Just make sure the check clears Quote
NorthoftheBorder Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 [tweet]507976549413715968[/tweet] Not near enough money!!! Of course the NCAA is why we are getting paid so little. A&M could afford to pay $2mil for this game. Quote
coachacola Posted September 5, 2014 Author Posted September 5, 2014 LU would make about $1 million if they were in a FBS conference, but even $325K is pretty low to be paying a FCS opponent. Maybe Jason Henderson hasn't learned the art of negotiation very well. Quote
Card Nation Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Oh, I was not aware that this amount was low. Does anybody know what LSU is paying SAM this weekend? Quote
geezer Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 (edited) No , but I know that Idaho is getting $975K for showing up to play Florida and weather causing the game not to be played. In the future FCS schools playing teams from the five major conferences may be a rarity, so if you need the payday games to make your athletic budget work it may be important to get into a FBS conference. . coachacola Posted September 6, 2014 Author Posted September 6, 2014 SHSU is getting $500K for playing LSU and McNeese is getting $415K for their game at Nebraska. Quote
Card Nation Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 SAM will receive $500,000 to play LSU. Geezer, you make a good point.... FBS pays alot more money and would definitely bring in more money, etc. I understand now why we should bump up if given the chance. The problem is that we can't really control if someone else accepts us or not... We have to maintain our own house... We have to act in a reasonable and responsible way with the money, resources, and opportunities that we do have..... Can anyone explain to me why SAM is getting $175,000 more to play LSU than we are getting to play A&M? Quote
geezer Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Can't give a factual answer but I would suppose it has to do with Sam's success the last several years and the Lamar game was set either before the first season or maybe the second season. Quote

Thanks. Both SAM and McNeese have had better programs and both are receiving higher payouts. Makes sense. Hopefully we can get to that category soon. Quote
