eagle eye Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 Okay, this is the 3rd time in 3 weeks the Cards face a big series but it's been true the first two times and it's equally true this time. For no other reason than Lamar needs to get off this morbid losing streak. Lamar is 1-7 in their last 8 games and that is the type of run you DO NOT want to be on. Seedings could change this last weekend of the regular season but in all honesty it would be just flipping the teams you'd probably face anyway. That isn't the bad part of this whole scenario. The Cards need to snap this losing trend. "Nip it, nip it in the bud.", as Barney Fife used to say, and get on some semblance of a positive roll. It's time to turn the season around. Quote
geezer Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 I agree 100%. If your the four or five seed your still playing the same team to open the tourney, but the attitude and confidence can change a bunch depending on whether you've been winning to get the seed or falling because of a streak of losses. The team is on the road so although I want a sweep I'll be satisfied if they win two of three. Quote
geezer Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Cards are struggling in game one. Appears to be a pitching by committee day as Johnson started, lasting only 3.2 innings and giving up five runs, relieved by Brown who managed 1.2 innings giving up four runs and relieved by Moore who although it shows as .2 innings and no runs actually allowed the last two runs charged to Brown to cross the plate. Good news is the Cards bats are awake so far and have put eight runs on the board through six innings. Quote
KABrother88 Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Lamar sweeps the Friday double header 10-9 and 13-6. Had to score 2 runs in the top of the 8th to take the opener. Freshman Robin Adames lead the way going 4-4 with 2 HRs, a 2B and 4 RBI. The rest of the bats got hot in game 2 with 6 HRs...going deep were Cutter McDowell, Ried Russell, Trey Silvers, Jacoby Middleton & Brendan Satran with 2. Russell's HR was his 17th on the year which is just 1 behind Michael Ambort's school record. Lamar will go for the series sweep tomorrow at 1. Quote
geezer Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 The wins today lock the Cards into the fourth place seed for the conference tourney and a win tomorrow along with a Northwestern St loss would get them back to third. Quote
Dracula Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 have a little faith, baby, have a little faith. Quote
geezer Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Good start for the Cards today as they are currently batting in the third inning with a 9-0 lead having scored three in the first, four in the second and two so far in the third. Also Love seems to be pitching ok so far. Quote
KABrother88 Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Bats are hot again today...currently up 9-0 in the 3rd. Have 4 HRs in the game. Russell tied the school record of 18, Trey Silvers went back to back with Russell. Robin Adames and Brendan Satran how each hit 2 yesterday (Adames game 1 and Satran game 2) have also homered today Quote
geezer Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Cards win the game in seven innings, 12-0. Not sure who to root for in the other games today. I believe depending on what Central Ark and Northwestern St do today the Cards will face either McNeese or Central Ark I believe based on tie breakers. The Cards swept UCA and UNO and lost two of three to McNeese. McNeese holds the tie-breaker with UCA to a UCA loss would make McNeese the fifth so depending on the outcomes of these games Lamar could face McNeese as either the third or fourth seed as McNeese is either looking at the fifth or sixth seed. KABrother88 Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Northwestern St wins on a walk off to sweep Abilene Christian...Lamar will be the 4 seed and play Central Arkansas to open the SLC tournament. Quote
eagle eye Posted May 23, 2016 Author Posted May 23, 2016 I'd say the Cards nipped their slump in the bud in pretty fine fashion. They went up to Nacogdoches and scored a total of 35 runs in 3 games in the course of sweeping SFA and nailing down the 3rd seed for the conference tournament. Nice season Cards, but we still have some work to do. Let's go down to Sugarland and kick a little conference ass! Quote
