Abilene Bound

The Lamar University football team looks to make it consecutive wins Saturday when it travels to Abilene, Texas to take on Abilene Christian (0-5/0-3 Southland) from Shotwell Stadium. It will be the last time LU faces the Wildcats in Shotwell as ACU plans to open its new on-campus facility in 2017.

The Wildcats enter Saturday looking to follow the same path as LU, and the Cardinals (1-3/1-1 SLC) previous opponent Southeastern Louisiana. The week before traveling to Beaumont, the Lions picked up their first win of the season – a conference game – against Northwestern State. Last week Big Red defeated Southeastern for its first win of the season. The Cardinals, on the other hand, would like to postpone an ACU victory for at least one more week.

"We've got nothing but tough conference opponents left on our schedule, and this week is no exception," said LU head coach Ray Woodard. "Abilene Christian is a very tough team to play at their place. They have a very young, improving team and you can see it every week on film. This is going to be a very tough game.

Your right Coach. Lamar is now up 31-3 on a 28 yard run. It may be time to call off Kade. Although he needs all the stats he can get for post season awards, LU has plenty of important games to go and with Nicholls beating SFA in overtime they will not be an easy win anymore.

ACU has a nice drive and gets a td with 10 seconds left in the third quarter. The scored on 4th and goal from the six yard line on their 4th pass attempt.

Last 2 games have seen the best complete games on the defensive side of the all in a long time. Seems like Lamar has always struggled putting 2 halves together but last week we allowed 7 first half and 7 second half point...then tonight 3 first half and 7 second half points.

Looking at the Massey Ratings LU ranks 3rd is scoring at 35 a game in the SLC and 2nd in defense at 23 a game. We're the only team to hold SHSU under 50 points. Can they keep this up? They should beat NWST next week at home then a must win at Central Arkansas for a chance at the playoffs.
