geezer
7 PM tip off tomorrow night to open the 2016-17 season. Granted this should be nothing more than a glorified scrimmage for the Cards, but it will be the first opportunity to see them play against someone other than themselves. geezer
At the under 12 minute timeout of the first half Lamar is up 22-9. Missed the start of the game so can't say who the starters were. Weisbrod has eight points.
geezer
Under 8 minute timeout and Lamar now up 34-13. Nzeakor playing strong has 12 points. LU had a couple of three point shots in the past four minutes of play. Good to see scoring from the inside players. Granted HP doesn't have the size or quality that most of the teams Lamar will play but still a positive. geezer
Lamar is continuing to push out the lead as the Cards are now up 43-18 at the under four minute timeout. The last four minutes have been a little sloppy for Lamar on defense as there have been too many fouls by LU.
geezer
At the half Lamar is leading 53-22. Key first half stats, Lamar has 14 personal fouls, just 4 turnovers. Leading scorers are Nzeakor 15, Garth has 11 with a couple of late three pointers and Weisbrod has eight points. Weisbrod has four rebounds to lead the Cards in that category. geezer
Under twelve minute timeout of the 2nd half and Lamar leads 73 - 28.
geezer
At the under four minute timeout Lamar leads 82-37. Last several minutes have been sloppy by LU. Weisbrod and Nzeakor have both been on the bench and Lamar has looked much similar to last years team with less than stellar defense and to much standing around on offense. coachacola
I like to judge these games by the scoring margin. It was good seeing LU having a large lead most of the game. It seems in years in which these games are somewhat close it doesn't bode well for the season. I think this team will have a triple threat with Garth, Nzeakor and Weisbold. If they can get consistent play from the other players maybe they'll have a decent team this year.
geezer
Final score LU 90 HP 47.
LU4LIFE
That was rough 10 minutes at the end of the game
geezer
The players on the court for most of the last ten minutes seemed to still trying to be playing man to man offense against the HP zone. Without Weisbrod or Nzeakor in the game to score in the post the offense went very stagnant. Last ten minutes looked a lot like last year. Not sure if Price just doesn't have a good offensive play scheme against the zone, or doesn't have the players needed to play against the zone or the players just don't execute. Hope they get something figured out between now and Wednesday or that game won't be close.

Felt Weisbrod got some points inside ,that in a D1 game would not happen. HP basically started 4 guards and a small forward & had no one the could play above the rim. Guarantee Oregon State will throw several types of match-up zones at us, & I expect Lamar to really struggle, since we are too short to shoot over the zone if we wanted to.
