geezer
About five minutes left in the first half and Lamar is down by fifteen. Not what Lamar needs to do.
coachacola
LU down 33-21 late in the first half.
geezer
At the half Lamar is trailing 37-28. Looking at the stats it would appear that for one of the first times this year Lamar did not take care of the ball as they have 8 turnovers compared to 5 for Idaho State. Lamar has eleven fouls and ISU has eight. Lamar is ahead on rebounds and appear to be gaining ground after starting out getting behind by seven before scoring and then falling behind by as many as sixteen at the 6:50 mark. geezer
So far the second half Lamar shot selection is less than it should be as they are driving the ball and throwing up some wild shots and taking some open three pointers that aren't falling and may be taking to early in the possession. geezer
Difference in the game to this point is shooting percentage. LU shooting about 30% compared to 47% for ISU and ISU hitting the three pointers currently 8 of 15 compared to 3 of 17 for Lamar. 11:51 left in the game. Lamar still down by nine. geezer
At the under 8 timeout Lamar is down by eight points. The Cards went on a run to pull to with in three points but then gave up eight straight before scoring again.
geezer
After pulling to within three points at the 10:51 mark Lamar only scores six points over the next eight and a half minutes. Poor shot selection and to many turnovers. Lamar just didn't seem ready to play. Also wonder when and if Price will alter his approach to go with a larger lineup and try to score inside a little more. During the second half scoring drought Nzeakor was on the bench so his rebounding went away. Albright doesn't seem to have a very good inside game and is not nearly as good a rebounder as Nzeakor or Chatman. The other story is that Lamar just didn't take care of the ball with 27 total turnovers. Final score ISU 77 Lamar 60.
PeckEm
I watched most of the second half. The officiating was terrible but we didn't play well at all. Poor shooting, poor defense, poor job taking care of the ball. VERY disappointing. They were getting a lot of open looks and easy shots and we weren't getting any. Our offensive scheme stinks. Throw it to Weisbrod in the post and pray that he scores or makes a decent pass to someone. Very little ball movement, very little player movement. On defense, over extending ourselves all over everywhere leaving people wide open or wide open drives to the basket. Awful.
Sweet T
Non foul calls and the refs were yelling at the Lamar players saying "that wasn't a foul. So unprofessional. Did anyone listen to the broadcast? They were playing in a football arena and their depth perception was off. They were playing 5000 feet above sea level, which is a killer for someone like Zjori, who has exercise induced asthma. ( he can't win for losing, it is one thing after snother)He could barely breathe even after using his inhaler. The other guys were having problems as well. I didn't notice anything strange with the arena but I don't recall any video that showed what was behind the goals. I didn't see the first half but in the second half, yes, the officiating was awful. Poor old Weisbrod was getting killed in the post and no calls. And they were calling every knick knack thing on us.

It was a bad game, everyone has them. Hopefully they will rebound in San Fran and pick up a road win.
Sweet T
Telling the truth is not making excuses. Do you know how hard it is playing in a football stadium and playing that many feet above sea level?
geezer
Poor shooting background is something the players must compensate for, I understand it was a football stadium, but the basketball court and Northwestern State isn't much better and homer officiating isn't unusual. If you want to blame it on the altitude well maybe, but there again that is something that Price should have been aware of when he scheduled the game and the compensation for that is to rotate more people more often. It was just a poor outing by the Cards and something they can't afford in SLC play either.
Sweet T
I am merely saying that they had a lot of obstacles to overcome. This wasn't a regular game. I have seen them play really well.
coachacola
Idaho State had a 7 footer that blocked a few shots early in the game. Teams with size will probably give LU problems unless they can create turnovers. Last night LU was the team making the turnovers. We'll see how well they handle this long road trip. geezer
Weisbrod is really good inside for his size, but does he have an outside game and can he defend a small forward. It's probably just my bias but I would like to see him play some at the three position especially against some taller teams. That is a position that Lamar has been very inconsistent at over the last several years. If your not getting the foul calls when he goes inside against a team with a big player such as last night maybe he can make the twelve to fifteen footer that opens up both the inside and outside. Lamar needs more out of the three than they are getting. No one is scoring from the mid range.

What kind of defense were we playing in the second half? No one could seem to guard the Idaho State small forward - seemed to be always open.
