eagle eye
The final four teams have been announced for the NCAA playoff for the 2016 National Champion. Ohio State Alabama Clemson Washington I wonder how the Big 10 champion Penn State Nittany Lions feel about that. The selection committee pretty much rendered winning a conference championship meaningless by voting in Ohio State over Penn State. I'm pissed that they did that. Penn State has a real bitch about being screwed over by the selection committee but few disagree with the committee's choices. It's a messed up situation. geezer
I think this may cement an expansion of the playoff. I for one think that every FBS conference champion should be part of the playoff and then if you want to create one or two slots for independents and/or a wild card team that's fine. Let the committee set up the pairings based on their ranking. There are currently ten FBS Conferences so a twelve team bracket where the top four ranked teams get a bye in week one would be pretty easy to set up. This would maybe add one or two games depending on who the winner is. With a twelve team bracket with the first four getting a bye it would add one more game for the champion and runner up than they play under the current system and would be the same number of games for the top four teams as an eight team bracket. This format would not minimize the regular season as getting one of the top four slots would still be what everyone is striving for. Looking at this years picks it wouldn't change who the top four seeds are but it would bring Penn State and Oklahoma from the power five conferences into the playoff and would add the group of five champions and one other team probably Michigan into the field. You might eliminate a few bowl games but then why do they have more bowl games than they can fill from teams with winning records any way. puddin tane
whats the point of a conference championship if the winner doesnt benefit? Penn St in, OSU out.
geezer
Agree Penn St got screwed worse than the PAC 12 did last year and the Big 12 did the year before that. I wonder if this will change what the Big 12 does in the future. The reason they decided to have a rematch conference championship is to get one more data point for the selection committee, but since it doesn't really matter if your the conference champion game winner and you beat the team they select then the playoff then is it worth the money? Isn't the extra games the reason to only have a four team playoff. Oh no wait it's about the money and the big bowl games that are now bidding to have one of the playoff games or become as irrelevant as the other twenty bowl games.
