LU Men Lose 3 Straight

We knew that the 3 game road trip after their big win over SAM nearly two weeks ago would be a challenge but I don't think anyone would have thought LU would lose all three. The Cards have one more road game before coming back home. They will play Northwestern State on Wednesday evening and they really, really need a win. This 3 game losing streak has cost the LU men 2 spots in the conference standings and knocks them out of the top 4 down to #6. They have 3 games remaining, 2 at home against Houston Baptist and Nicholls and the season finale at McNeese. Lamar can win all three and they should beat Nicholls and McNeese. It will be very important to beat Houston Baptist too. Even if it doesn't change their slot in the standings sweeping the last 3 games would be big going into the conference tournament.

Counting Wednesday the Cards have four games remaining two on the road and two at home. I find it very hard to think the Cards won't win at least one but this squad has already lost too many games they could have won, so I'll just watch, wait and comment. With this bunch I think anything is possible, from ending the regular season on a four game win streak to ending it with a seven game loosing streak and possibly missing the tourney again. Realistically I think sweeping the game is very reasonable as the Cards beat both Northwestern St and McNeese by twenty at home, but it's been several years since the Cards have won in Natchitoches and like SFA it has been over a decade since the Cards have won in Lake Chuck. For the two home games the Cards lost by seven at HBU so maybe the crowd can lift them to a win and the Cards won at Nicholls so a solid performance should produce a win in that contest. Along with focus and determination the Cards must take care of the ball and minimize turnovers in these remaining games.

They should win their remaining 4 games but they are a terrible road team. I see them going 3-1 and finishing 10-6 in conference. At least they'll make the SLC tournament. The bar for LU basketball is pretty low these days.

Agree with Coachacola, this team was picked 11th in SLC preseason, so they will surpass that (I hope) and make the tourney. With everybody back except Davis & Owens next year expectations will be much higher.

its really sad that were a bubble slc tourney team year after year.i know we are improving slowly and like tic but with our facilities and support we should be a dominate slc team.if lamar would have had the success that sfa has had we would be averaging 6k plus a game.it should be easy to get the best players looking at slc schools because of the potential atmosphere they could play in.I should go recruit for tic.

Sorry I did miss the win in Lake Chuck last year but I remembered we split with them and with past history just made an assumption. Twenty plus years of mediocre to bad teams has taken the LU fan base from what it was, when it packed the civic center and built the Montange from dominating the SLC attendance to an average crowd about equal with the top winning teams of SFA and Sam Houston. Free tickets for students maybe gets 750 out of a 15000 plus enrolment to a game. The Cards will have to win first to get the crowds back and that is unfortunate. Edited by geezer

I think it's been more like 30 years of mediocre to just downright awful. And it's pretty amazing that anyone goes after such a long miserable drought! We had one fluke year with Knight sponging off of Roccafortes recruiting and that's pretty much it. I had season tickets from about 1981 thru the most of the Mike Deane era. His coaching and the numerous bad years was more than I could take. I've been to less than 5 games since then.
