PeckEm
Lamar coming out with black jerseys and black hats...sharp look It does look cool but our damn school colors are red and white!! And why are we even on the field??!! If this idiot coach is going to pull a Gilligan and play everyone then why even bother playing the game??!! If you aren't going to play to win then don't play!!!! What the hell is this, t-ball???!!!
PeckEm
And how old is our "coach"? 12??? Friggin going to UT with some talent and you just crap the game down the toilet??!! I thought the point of playing was to win??? He must be one of those "everyone gets a trophy" millennial brats!! Oh, it's not about winning it's about everyone getting a chance??!! Screw this shit, I quit watching that nauseating crap.

While you play every game to win, mid-week non-conference wins aren't the important wins. There are question marks in terms of the bullpen arms. These are the games you need to find out who is gonna step up. You also can't mortgage your entire season on a February mid-week non conference game. No school in the country does it. Give me a break!!! If you don't play to win then don't play!!! He doesn't know what the best pitchers are yet?? BS!!! We can't have a set rotation?? The big leagues play 160+ games with a set rotation and we can't play 40-50??? That's more bs!!! I don't give a crap what "other programs" do!! And this isn't just another mid week game!!! This is a freaking game that could get our sorry ass athletic program noticed for a change!! Not playing to win makes me literally wNt to throw up!!! What message are we sending??!! Ahh, who cares...it's not about winning!!?? I guess that's why we are friggin losers!!!

He's a student, he could have gotten an inning in against UT!!! I thought college baseball was the best players play, I forget about the new America, everyone plays!! We beat LSU AND Texas last season and it wasn't enough to get our "sorry ass program" attention enough to make the tourney. If you want to make the NCAA tourney from the Southland, you better go win the SLC tourney. To do that you need to position yourself for a better seed by winning as many weekend conference games and not burning your horses on the mid-week non conference games. When you get to the tourney you need plenty of arms because of the schedule...you have to find out in game situations who you can count on. Bullpen session only tell you so much. My God this is game #9 of the season...
spoonbill
I have to admit I actually lol'd at this thread. All the exclamation points burned on a non-conference, mid-week, game in February. Jeez, step back from the ledge. smdh. Put down the revolver and reread KABrother's posts slowly. Lamar's season will, and always has been, determined by their weekend in-conference games, period. geezer
Hopefully the Cards sweep the weekend at UTRGV (I liked Pan Am better). The new name may better describe the area the school is serving but it just doesn't roll out of the mouth the same.
eagle eye
Okay, here’s a little perspective on our “sorry assed program”. Lamar has a 6-3 record which has them tied with Central Arkansas and New Orleans for the best overall records in the conference. Nobody has played a conference game yet. Lamar lost their first two games of the season in the series with Fairfield University last weekend and they lost to UT by a score of 9-5 on Tuesday. Not exactly the blowout you would have guessed had happened by reading Peckem’s posts. I would be willing to bet any amount of money UT didn’t play their weekend guys either—will you award them ‘participation trophies’ too? If you did think the players in the game weren’t playing to win you don’t know squat about college ball. Every guy on the team is a step up from high school. Participation trophies sort of go away after little league. The players on a college roster are the best available and I would be willing to bet all are on scholarship so get over yourself. The players that play during the week are expected to perform on the weekend too. On Tuesday UT was just better than Lamar but it was nothing to hang your head over. For a small school to be competitive against a school with an enrollment the size of a small city I think it’s pretty damn good. BTW, the wins over UT and other big name schools last year were accomplished by the so-called weekday players and so-called backup pitchers. So, Mr Peckem, put that in your pipe and smoke it and blow the smoke out of your ass for dissing the team players like you did. You made it sound like either the players weren’t trying or they just were just some schmucks pulled out the stands that were sacrificial lambs to the God UT and that is just not the case. What about the Cardinal Classic when LU played 4 games in 2 days sweeping both Milwaukee University and Illinois. One is a small school and the other from the Big 10. Do you honestly think none of the players and pitchers on the field that weekend weren’t on the field against UT? Really? As for your son’s contribution to the LU baseball team, unless his name is Clark Kent, I’m sure he would make a Cracker-Jack batboy as long as he wore a helmet and stayed in the dugout during at-bats. I don’t mean to be rude but, Peckem, you were out of line. Not happy about the results against UT? Great, nobody is but to insult the players who gave everything on the field is a damn shame and to insult the coach just because he looks young is really silly. People have been screaming for a younger, energetic coach to replace Jim Gilligan for years on this forum and now that we have that guy you disparage his ability just because he looks his age. There is just no pleasing some people. The one thing I found interesting about this thread was the observation by some that the black and red unis Lamar wore were not really team or school colors. They did look okay but I still like the good old red and white.
geezer
For the record and I don't know the exact number, but men's baseball at the D-1 level is limited to about fifteen total athletic scholarships, no where near enough to fill a full squad. Most of the players are on some kind of partial scholarship or combination of other scholarships available to all of the non-athletic scholarships. Only a very few of the players are on full athletic scholarships.

If you want more than one SLC bid it's definitely not going to happen by just giving up. But, oh well, who cares. W hy try to win. Maybe we will get a participation trophy. Rule of thumb for baseball scholarships is a half a scholarship for pitchers and a quarter of a scholarship for position players. Full scholarships are only common for football and basketball. geezer
Yes Lamar probably pitched partial scholarship players at best and so did UT.
