The Spring football practice and game are history, the NFL draft is over, and neither starts back for a few months. What now? Finally, I finished putting the video from last season's SHSU game, not so much the game but the background stuff of the band, the crowd and one interesting shot of the tailgaters in the North Montagne parking lot, on DVD. One tailgater has some huge KA letters, in his space, could it be our own KABrother88?

That is the fraternity where my name derives from. Was an active member from 2007-2010. I was at one of their tailgates last year but cannot remember what game it was. Usually if I do tailgate it is with another group. I actually remember when those letters were made...was right before I graduated. Standard fraternity letters used at events are 8 ft tall as plywood comes in 8 ft sheets...well we made ours out of 2 sheets with a hinge to be 16 ft and stand out more. In fact when they allowed us to put letters on the endzone hill in front of the Morgan Suites, we used these because they didn't have a regulation and they stood out so much vs other groups...that was quickly changed lol

My time was in the mid seventies. I played on Lamar's club Rugby team. Many of the players were fraternity guys, who invited us to their house parties. Sweet. There is one tradition that I would like to see return to Lamar football and that is the bell and when to ring it. If I remember correctly, it was about a foot tall and mounted on a pedestal near the old ramp, which lead from the field house to field level. It would be rung when the team would enter and when the team would score. In my opinion, a much better, in your face, trash talking, acknowledgement then the cheerleader endzone flips. Those were the days.

The month of May will have the French Open Tennis tourney, the Players Championship i Golf and whole lot of baseball. We will also have the Lady Cards softball team to root for in the SLC conference tournament as well. Pro football will begin OTAs in a week or two so all is not lost.

The softball team could use and they deserve some more support. They're a competitive group.

Spoonbill is absolutely right. The Ladies softball team is still plugging away. They not only deserve the support of Lamar and it's fans but they have earned it by representing Lamar, in a manner, that all Cardinal fans can be proud of. Their first game is at 3:00pm today vs Cal Poly and is scheduled to be shown on ESPN3. I'll be watching and cheering on the ladies. For some reason, an old Lamar Rugby song, from the seventies, that we would sing to the other team right before kickoff, comes to mind. Most of the song is neither printable or repeatable but the last part seems appropriate, in an in your face trash talking kind of way. The last part was "We're from Lamar and we say F--- ---" (you can fill in the rest). Ladies, spikes up and gloves down.
