Lamar has jumped out to an early lead on a three pointer by Frenchwood, a three pointer by Weisbrod, two free throws by Nzeakor and a second three pointer by Frenchwood. 17:27 left in the first half and LU up 11-0

At the second media timeout LU is up by twelve at 21 - 9. Weisbrod took another blow to the face and is on the bench. Cards are hitting 60% from the three point arc and 44% overall.

Cards have started out hot shooting, but it appears that they may be settling for the outside shot too quickly and haven't really worked the ball inside. At 8:00 minutes left in the half LU is up 24 - 15.

Halftime and Lamar is up by twenty at 45 - 25. Overall LU is shooting 52.6% compared to 32.3 for UTEP and are 9 of 14 from three point range. Cards have a total of five fouls with Sullivan picking up two fouls in the last three minutes of the half and one foul on three other LU players. Cards lead in rebounds with 23 to 15 for UTEP.

2:29 left in the game an the lead is down to 13 points as Lamar has gone cold and have not scored a field goal in the last nine minutes. Cards have not hit a three pointer in the second half.

38 seconds left and Lamar is up by eleven and have made their first field goal since the 11:24 point in the second half.

Final score Lamar 66 - UTEP 52 Lamar's next game is Saturday at Coastal Carolina with a 6 PM Beaumont start time. Cards will need to play solid for the full forty minutes to win the next game. Cards played really good for about the first thirty minutes tonight but didn't score for about a ten minute period during the second half.

Was looking at the stats, all 5 starters scored in double digits and all played 30+ minutes. Not much contribution from the bench. UTEP is just average but this was an impressive win.

Nice win for the Cards 5-1 on the season so far and considering LU didn’t hit a field goal for a big chunk of the 2nd half it is even more impressive. Coastal Carolina up next. Go Cards!!!

While UTEP has a similar Massey and Sagarin rating as Lamar,any road win is special especially over a Conference USA team in a guarantee game.

Love to see Nzeakor step up. If that guy gets it together, watch out!

 

Also, Bosha was doing Bosha things tonight. Dude is a stud when healthy.

Interesting note, UTEP’s Head coach abruptly retired after the game last night.

UTEP's Tim Floyd was a successful coach at UNO just like our Tic Price.He alluded to health issues at 63 in his post game speech.Tic price immediately recruited Bosha after getting the job late in the season.McNeese had recruited Bosha hard all year while a Pat Knight assistant came by practice and spent more time on his phone than evaluating.Knight had little interest in Bosha.Thankfully Tic and Bosha clicked as it wasn't long til signing date when he got the job.Bosha's interest in Lamar if offered was also an important factor.Bosha had a strong game scoring,rebounding and on defense last night.

Knight's only interest at Lamar was collecting a paycheck.

Bosha had numerous mid major offers. His mother wanted him to stay close to home. I went with him to his visit with Mcneese, and the coaching staff was great; as well. Their facilities were subpar, so he decided to play for Lamar, who has state of the art facilities. I felt really bad for the Mcneese coach when I told him Zjori's decision.
