looking at the roster and wondering

a-did all the qbs show up? b-which ones are now tight ends?, c- Schultz running the wishbone or veer?

A.) Only mid year QB was Old Dominion transfer Jordan Hoy and yes he is going through camp.

B.) None I know of but Morse might be playing fullback if he doesn’t watch out.

C.) Hearing wishbone is the clubhouse favorite...going to Vegas in a few weeks so I’ll let you know what the Bellagio’s sports book says.

4 QBs currently if you include Hoy and Dallas but I don't expect to ever see Dallas on the football field. 3 on the field yesterday in the first full pad practice. Dallas is in-season for baseball and I'd imagine won't be throwing this spring. He wasn't there yesterday. Morse has actually lost weight. I'd wager to bet Colbert has him by a good 10 lbs. All 3 looked decent yesterday although Hoy is behind naturally. He looks athletic like the coaches seem to like. Problem at this level is, and will always be unless the coach's preference changes, finding an athletic QB that can actually chunk it. Those kids are at the big D1 schools. The O-line is markedly bigger. They at least look the part this year.

Good to hear Morse has lost some weight. He was listed at 6’1” 234 last year and the pictures I’ve seen from practices he still looks to be carrying a good amount of weight. However, with QBs wearing the flak jacket padding sometimes that makes it deceiving. In all honesty, I’m surprised he didn’t transfer after last season. He’s a really good QB but doesn’t fit the offense that Schultz is determined to run. Schultz said prior to practices starting that Dallas would be limited in spring due to baseball. Lamar played at Tulane last night so that would be why he was absent. I liked what I saw from Hoy’s JUCO film but now he’s running his 4th offense in 4 years going back to HS. I feel like he’ll be one to watch come fall after he gets some reps and learns the playbook.

I doubt Dallas throws at all this spring. I just don't see time to throw the football between pitching and the rest required in between outings. Hoy looks athletic but has the weakest arm of the 3 throwing yesterday although it's no wet noodle. Morse has the best arm of them. With this offense Schultz runs they will probably all see playing time this year due to injuries.

It's gonna be interesting to see how everything shakes out in fall practice. All of those option pitches are gonna kill the Cards. The ball was on the ground a lot on Saturday. Both lines look bigger for sure. Whether that translates into them being good in conference games is still up for debate.

Agree that even if it looks like the play is an improvement no one will know until you see them play another team. Both sides of the ball were ineffective last year so playing against each other doesn't tell much. Still it's nice to hear some talk.

Pretty vanilla Geezer, but alot more chemistry. Offense moved really really fast. Morse struggled at QB. Colbert/Hoy looked good, need to avoid taking sacks. Several kids looked alot faster too. They will all be hitting the weight room daily throughout the summer.

I'll check in weekly with Schultz and give updates.

report on LU website says Morse was the "most efficient" qb, going 7-11 for 118 yards? Colbert and Hoy both around 50 pct. Morse get sacked a bunch?

I agree, come hell or high water, Schultz will want to play a "dual threat" QB but it will not be Colbert, it will be Marcellus Johnson. At 6'3 and 200lb pounds, runs a sub 4.6, and doesn't tuck and run at the first breakdown, he's the guy. His stats from 2017 makes him look like the best QB prospect Lamar has had in years.

Colbert will most likely start the season but I don't think that he will finish it, Johnson will.

After more digging, I am changing my vote. After watching Hoy's JUCO film, I agree with KA brother. Add in the Spring game results,

http://www.lamarcardinals.com/news/2018/3/29/football-cards-close-spring-with-scrimmage.aspx?path=football

...The 6-1, 195, junior completed 9-of-16 passes (.563) for 115 yards and led the Cards on two scoring drives. He also carried the ball three times for 20 yards, and appeared to have a rushing touchdown before being called down short of the goal line. ...

I like that kid and Johnson is now my #2, even though his films show an athletic QB with size, speed, and a decent arm.

There are 4 QB's on the roster. I think that it is fair to say that Morse is not a dual threat. Dallas, maybe, but he's a bit undersized and probably leaning more to baseball than football. That leaves Colbert, Hoy, and Johnson. I could be totally wrong but it seemed to me, that last year, Colbert would start running at the first line breakdown and, at that point, looking downfield, for a passing opportunity, was not an option. That leaves Hoy and Johnson. I like them both but I think that Hoy will be the guy.

"It's Darrel's job to lose, but Jordan Hoy has come in and done a nice job," said Schultz. "We redshirted Adam Morse last season but he has competed really hard this spring and place himself in a solid spot. Jack is in a tough spot because we don't get to see him that much because he is a rare dual-sport kid, who is having an impact with baseball right now. I'm happy with where their this group is, but there is no doubt that Darrel has separated himself."

I think Hoy looked better than Colbert and probably should be the starter come fall. Morse has the best arm and he really looked good after his first 2 drives, which were shaky at best. The O line looked better as well, especially considering they were rotating lineman constantly to get tape on everyone.

With the offense we run all 4 QBs are likely to play some this year due to injuries. Look at last year if you think otherwise. Schultz is in love with the dual threat QB because it causes breakdowns by the opposing defense occasionally. Unfortunately it also provides too many opportunities for direct hits on the QBs. He's dead set on running it tho.
