Another weekend of stink by Lamar Baseball

While I think Gilligan's time has passed finding the right replacement will take some time. I remember when Gilligan left for a shot at the professional level and the fast dive of the program at that time. While I don't think Lamar ever achieved what it had before Gilligan's first departure when he came back, he did stabilize the program for a number of years. It may be a year or two early to really see what Davis can begin to produce but this year sure isn't creating any excitement. He may think the pitching has been decent this year but it hasn't really been there in conference. This team better start producing or they won't have a chance at making the conference tourney.

Firing coach davis at this point would be idiotic.he's signed the southlands top ranked recruiting classes the last 2 years.i expect to be contending for the cof title next year and then sky's the limit.if he's not winning by then by all means pull he plug.

Life without Gilligan (which some of you have wanted for years) seems to mean without success. I'll be glad when someone proves me wrong but until then.... If Davis really did say he wanted to de-Gilliganize the program, he's a fool. Gilligan's worst start wasn't close to as bad as what's happening now. If you've got some eligibility left and can hit .200 (make that .180) we'll stick you in the middle of the lineup!

We probably all need a little patience. The recruiting is a lot different then it was when Gilligan started and who remembers his first years. Also let's face it the University has never put any real money into Vincent-Beck which may be needed both to attract the best talent and at some point will be needed for a quality coach. Not saying Davis won't turn out to be a good coach but if he does he'll likely move on.

Speaking of putting money into Vincent-Beck...I was told last weekend that they are supposed to lay down turf on the entire field before next season.

That will be a good addition, but if I'm a recruit a really first class locker room facility would be more impressive. If as a coach I want to get top tier national programs to come play in Beaumont a decent visitors locker room would help. In Gilligan's early days it was easy to get big name schools to come to Beaumont because it was too cold to work out in the upper mid-west so Big Ten schools would send their baseball teams south for a couple of weeks to get to warm weather and get playing dates. Also recruits were less interested in going to play for an Ohio State where their were few facilities to practice year around and those recruits would go south. Now almost all of the major programs in the north have indoor practice facilities and can provide the same kind of work out and development programs that used to only be available in the southern states. The baseball team deserves a facility equal to football for baseball. One could possibly figure a way to create something that would serve both baseball and softball.

That’s the answer, a locker room!!
