geezer
With four games left to play I would expect to win three of the four games. One road game remains and all four games are against teams lower in the conference standings than Lamar. Looking at the games ahead Lamar defeated A&MCC at home, but the game was tight and CC has a good record against the conference leaders they have played at home. Next up at home against HBU who Lamar lost to in overtime at their place. Lamar will close the season out at home on consecutive Saturdays against SFA and McNeese and those games are always tough. Bottom line every remaining game is winnable but none can be taken lightly and if LU is to get a mid to upper level seating in the SLC Tourney need at least three wins. coachacola
I'd like to see them win out then win the SLC tourney. The SLC is weak and LU has a chance to do that. I never thought I'd be saying this a month ago.
baller
Both the Lumberjacks and the Cowboys are weakened due to key injuries and defections.Of course we lost Atwood who was really coming on when he injured his foot.Hopefully,we keep the pedal to the metal, win out,and snag a tournament bye that comes with a top 4 seed.Without a bye the chance of winning the tournament are slim. geezer
Moving up any further will require help as three of the four teams above LU in the standings are teams the Cards lost to and only played once. No chance of catching Sam even if they were to loose out and that's the one team ahead of Lamar that the Cards have a win over. Some help is available as the schedule has SELA playing ACU and New Orleans so at least one of these three will have another loss coming and UNO plays Sam. Looks like the best the Cards can do based on the teams above them playing each other is a tie for third. Tie-breaker favors the other teams. I am just shocked and ecstatic that this team makes the SLC Tournament. I had written them off 4 weeks ago, especially with the loss of Atwood. But, the emergence of Christian Barrett as a complete player has changed this teams outlook.
geezer
No real help for the Cards in the standings today as both UNO and SELA get wins. SELA defeated ACU which does bring ACU within range but SFA is there highest placed team in conference left to play. SELA has three game remaining at home versus Northwestern St and UNO, then close out on the road at Nicholls. UNO has Sam at home next Wed then finish up on the road against Nicholls and the previously mentioned game at SELA. For the Cards to advance in the seeding LU must win out, with some combination of the following. SELA gets upset by Northwestern St and Nicholl. UNO drop three straight. ACU drop three of their last four. All three of these schools have the tie-breaker so it will take multiple losses. Even at that I agree a fifth place finish considering where LU was just a few weeks ago is a vast improvement.
Skinny1
With today’s win at Corpus, according to my calculation, Lamar men have clinched a berth in the post-season SLC Tournament. I plan on being there. Hey Geezer, why don’t you dig yourself out of the snow and join me!
