puddin tane Posted September 16, 2019 Posted September 16, 2019 I'm not worried about Hoy. I don't think it is necessary for him to go balls to the wall, yet. The RB game has been good, those slants across the middle have been hit, and the defense, with my favorite pet cat, #10, is getting after it. Finally, after all these weeks, it's showtime. I think the wonder boy Mcbride, quitting late like he did, screwed things up. Schultz knows hoys all he has and is getting him to flop with the schedule we've played so far and Miss Valley being off last week(are they decent?, suckage?)...we have no clue what this team can and cant do. Sela has been stuffing the run and passing the ball.... Quote

You call it flopping but I call it being conservative. https://www.espn.com/watch/player?id=f0a8bd87-a9e7-4431-99e0-f0c38c774c4a Forget the rest of the game and just look at the last LU drive of the MVS game. With a little over 3 minutes left, down by seven, and starting at their own 25 it sure looked bad. On the last drive, Hoy overcame 2 sacks, 2 4th down do or die plays, hit Kirkland Banks twice and Banks dropped both, ran for 15 yards on a 3rd and 10,and with less than 40 seconds left, he puts up a accurate pass to 6'3 Johnson, who scores the tying TD. In that last do or die, season on the line drive, and, with the exception of the pass OOB's to avoid a sack, Hoy was on the money. I don't see anything different , from Hoy, then what we saw last year, a QB that can pass and run. I'm with puddin tane. I think that Schultz has put the brakes on the running and wants him passing. But, when push comes to shove, I would bet those wheels come out. Quote

Our 2nd string QB now is either a 1st year freshman or a redshirt jr. I don't think flopping is a word I would use. We don't want Hoy to get hurt before Givens or Johnson is ready to play a big role for the Cards. We're going to find out alot about Big Red after we play SELA.....the Lions have looked very good so far this season. Edited September 17, 2019 by BigRed2010 Quote
lu cards Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 I have big expectations for hoy.i hope y’all are correct and he blows up this saturday. Quote
geezer Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 The article in the Enterprise confirms the announcers report that Hoy was a game time decision to play based on injury the prior week. That said, I am sure it affected the play calling. My only question for the coaching staff is why did they keep him in the game as long as they did? Quote
puddin tane Posted September 18, 2019 Posted September 18, 2019 Hell, shoulda put Robinson back at qb for a week! And who is this mystery man Shane Johnson? Been on the roster 2 years without a sighting. Does he really exist? wonder if Marcellus is getting an reps Quote
PeckEm Posted September 18, 2019 Posted September 18, 2019 I don't know why you're SMH. We all knew what the outcome was going to be. The only questions were how would they lose and how many wouldn't get back, on the bus? Would they show some Schultz fight or would they fold up like a Woodard tent? They played hard, they didn't quit, and https://247sports.com/college/texas-am/LongFormArticle/Texas-AM-Lamar-football-Isaiah-Spiller-135649109/#135649109_2 LAMAR'S DEFENSE A NUISANCE FACTOR Lamar had no sacks and technically just two quarterback hurries but they still had six tackles for loss and the Aggies had issues targeting the right people at times. They were aggressive off the edge and shooting gaps any time that the Aggies went with 12 personnel or bunch formations and close in sets which led to negative plays. My opinion hasn't changed. The offense is loaded, we seemed to have found a reliable FG kicker, and the question mark, that was on the defensive side of the ball, has been removed. I think that LU is looking good heading into the conference schedule. We'll find out Saturday night. I haven’t seen any indication that the offense is loaded. The defense played ok, but the secondary was horrendous. The offense, particularly Hoy, didn’t even try. It was probably because the coaches told him not to take a hit. It’s football, don’t bother putting a guy out there if you don’t want him to get hit. It was embarrassing, we were just there collecting a proverbial welfare check. Quote
coachacola Posted September 18, 2019 Posted September 18, 2019 I don't think a loaded offense only scores 23 against a bad Miss Valley State team and only manages a field goal against A&M. Receivers and running backs seem average. A hobbled QB that's one injury away from the team relying on 2 inexperienced backups doesn't bode well. Maybe with conference play starting the offense will suddenly kick into high gear but that seems unlikely. A least now on kickoffs LU can kick it into the end zone so teams don't start at midfield like when Woodard was the coach! Quote
Dracula Posted September 18, 2019 Posted September 18, 2019 Oh yea of little faith. We'll find out Saturday night. At least the game is on ESPN+. Quote
