LU Football VS HBU

Featured Replies

I think I will be going to the game tomorrow. I live just north of Houston so this is a close game for me. Do we even care anymore? I am going to see what kind of crappy play calling football we can play. I will be talking plenty of noise to Schultz.
Maybe both teams can agree to only call running plays so the game doesn't last long. Also that might be Lamar's best chance.
HBU takes the opening drive for a touchdown. LU took the resulting kickoff, had a decent drive and settled for a long field goal. LU held HBU on the next drive.
After a short HBU punt Lamar moves the ball to the 19 yard line settling for another field goal.
HBU uses a couple of big pass plays to move the ball inside the LU 10 yard line and are looking at a 3rd and goal on the six yard line to end the first quarter.
Cards held at the goal line forcing a HBU field goal. HBU is up 10-6 with 14:52 left in the first half.
Cards use a good mix of runs and passed move the ball 65 yards for a touchdown with 9:04 left in the first half for a 13-10 lead.
That was a decent drive by LU.
Why blitz after two sacks?
As much as the LU offense deserves the criticism it's received this year the big pass plays the defense has given up are just as frustrating. LU allows a 3rd and 15 pass that goes 53 yards to set HBU up for a seven yard TD to retake the lead. From what I saw the big pass was set up by LU's defensive scheme. LU blitzed through a screen pass that no one picked up and left the receiver wide open.

Following a HBU interception of a LU pass, HBU goes 30 yards on one pass play to extend the lead to 24-13.
Givens hits a 53 Yard field goal to get LU back to with in a one score game at the 1:27 mark of the first half. Can the Cards hold til the half?
Some good news. Northwestern State defeats Slam 31-28 in Huntsville. The loss probably knocks them out of any chance for the conference championship. Barring a McNeese come back against Nicholls, Nicholls and Southeastern La will meet next week with the winner guaranteed at least a tie for the championship.

Just realized Wanza hasn't played at all today. Assume out with an injury?
Cards open the second half with a short drive before punting. The defense holds and LU tackles the HBU punter following a bad snap at the HBU one yard line. Cards score two plays later to pull to within one point with 11:29 left in the third quarter.
As bad a the defense has played LU is only down one!
Huge, Lamar just recovered a fumble inside their own ten yard line.
Just when you think things may be going Lamar's way the HBU punt hits a Cardinal in the back and HBU recovers near the LU 20. HBU completes a pass that sets up a first and goal. Lamar forces an HBU fumble to regain the ball.
Lamar punts and HBU moves the ball with the aid of a couple of Lamar penalties, a Lamar miscue on defense that allows HBU to get a first down on a long third down and a missed tackle on a scoring play HBU gets a touchdown to extend the lead back to eight points.
Why, why, why attempt a onside kick now?
When it doesn't work it's always a bad call, but I agree and Lamar's play calling offense, defense and special teams is questionable more often than not.
Lamar blocks a HBU field goal attempt and recovers the ball at about the fifty yard line with just little over three minutes remaining.
Wow, what kind of last drive was that?
Lamar moved the ball but then fails on a 4th and one play with a minute left.
Last year Hoy was ready to play when Colbert got hurt, this year neither Givins or Shane Johnson could step up. Shane Johnson had to come in for the last two Lamar possesions today and was unable to deliver, even compared to Marcelous Johnson who played most of the year at wide receiver. I'm sure he didn't expect to play coming back from an injury himself but if you suit up you need to step up.
