Roundtrip economy flights from Houston to Denver (about a 2 hour drive to Greely) are less than $150. Can stay in Greely or Fort Collins, both are great places to visit. Quote

The best I can determine the entire school in housed in a former hotel in Houston. They beat Louisiana College by a point last Saturday. La. College just moved from NCAA III to NAIA this year. They also play Sul Ross (III), several prep schools, a couple of D2's and Texas Southern. Lamar appears to be their "biggest" game. If this isn't what I call a roster game, we're in trouble. Roster game? If you want to see a kid play is who may not play again all year, this is your best chance. I watch the end of blowouts for this reason. Quote

Their games against TSU and us are their biggest games. Hard to get excited about playing a team that probably wouldn't even beat the 10th best HS program in Houston... then it's a paycheck game against UTSA and a trip to play Northern Colorado... making the ACU game the first game I think there will be buzz around. Don't get me wrong- if I either lived in Beaumont or didn't have work on Friday, I'd be at the NAU game... but not going over to see a 60-0 beatdown that probably won't even be as good as a controlled scrimmage. My reasons for lack of excitement - its Thursday, Its 110 degrees, everyone is talking bout covid, Afghanistan, hurricane. Our offense. Damn near zero words from Morgan. And we are playing the crapiest team weve every brought in. (And we have a storied tradition of bullshite home opener opponents.) its just a full dress scrimmage with the availability of pretzels, beer, and overpriced cokes. If you can walk you are gonna play. but i will be there! Quote

Assuming none of them used a year of eligibility in 2019 or earlier, they're all "freshmen"... this will be interesting. Quote

NorthoftheBorder Posted September 3, 2021 Posted September 3, 2021 Yep, what you have described above on how we have operated the athletic dept at my esteemed alma materthis has for the most part, been the Modus Operandi for the 45 years that I have followed LU. But i am changing subjects and hoping to start a little banter among the few of us that still come on this site: I am predicting a 4-7 record this season, and would say that for Morgan's second season, a 6-5 record would be huge and maybe a good sign that he has things headed in the right direction. I would take it with all things considered. Looking for a little enthusiasm with some responses. Quote

Skinny1 Posted September 5, 2021 Posted September 5, 2021 Athletic Department said they could not find anyone to come to Beaumont on the 1st week of the season after the earlier scheduled team cancelled. I was disappointed with the choice of NAU, but their talent was not as bad as I expected. Who knows the background of their players. That being said, it is not any worse than Alabama scheduling Mercer in mid season (just another bye week). But Saban says they can not find anyone to play them in Tuscaloosa (bullshit!). So I guess in that respect, we are like Alabama! Lol Quote
