Here is what I found:

"Hired last month to lead the Cardinals, Morgan will make $265,000 annually, according to his contract obtained by The Enterprise on Friday. It is a four-year deal that runs through the 2023 season, the contract stated."

So one more year. Not sure what the buyout is.

How about if Lamar was to fire Morgan and have the Assistant Coaches run the program. That way there is little to no extra costs. The outcome probably couldn't get much worse.

Dont think you gain anything by firing a coach mid season. Let him go as soon as season is over and dont drag it out. If I were the ad I would be putting thinks in place now to allow new coach time to recruit and hire staff.

Wasn't suggesting you fire him mid-season. Simply that if Lamar athletics doesn't have the money to buy out the contract, then just use the assistants next year.

Yeah, we have done the firing after season. We hire a firm to find the greatest coaching talent in the world. Then we ponder for a few months. Then we cross off all the best young coaches and coaches that could win immediately with the talent we have. Then we ponder some more while these potential coaches get hired away. Then we wait for the last week of the recruiting season to end. Then somebody closes his/her eyes and throws the magic dart to pick our next coach and steal those sleeper recruits away.

Looking at the Massey Ratings (just for the giggles), LU is ranked 123 out of 130. Since Brooks failed last year to claim the bottom sport in basketball, maybe Morgan can do it in football. Having goals in important.

One thing I think is wrong with Coach Morgans philosophy is he does not recruit Juco kids. That is a lot of players to pass on. Plus they give the team some maturity.

Mike Deane had the same philosophy of just recruiting high school kids. That did not workout to well for him at Lamar.
