geezer
Lamar men close out their current road swing at Southeastern tomorrow with a 6 PM tip off. The Cards are one and one on the road swing with an embarrassing loss at UIW and a nice win at UNO. Lamar defeated the Lions by ten at home, but that was Southeastern's last loss. The Lions are on a six-game winning streak including a win against conference leader McNeese. In light of their recent history, this may be a very tough game and it may be another embarrassment. Will Lamar still be tied for second after tomorrow evening with two home games next weekend against McNeese and Corpus or will Lamar be trying to figure out how to stay in the top four. geezer
At the first media timeout, Lamar is up 10-5. Pryor has hit two three pointers and overall Lamar is shooting well early in the game.
geezer
At the second timeout, Lamar is up by four 14-10. Fouls seem pretty uneven to this point as Lamar has been called for five and SELA none.
geezer
Reached the half and SELA now has a two-point lead 34-32. Lamar was up by six, but then had one of their spells and SELA went on a big run to get to a seven-point lead before Lamar was able to reel them back in. Rebounds are about even, fouls have finally about evened up and so far the Cards are doing a good job of taking care of the ball. Big thing is shooting percentage fell to the point that SELA is shooting better than Lamar with three more made three-pointers than Lamar out of the same number of attempts. geezer
3:08 left in the game and SELA up by one, 57-56. SELA ball coming out of the timeout.

Skinny1
Lamar is in good shape as per personal fouls except for White, who has 4.

geezer
Lamar plays a solid five minutes of overtime to collect the win 77-72. Hit the free throws when they counted down the stretch.

Skinny1
Lamar played a solid game on the road tonight. SELa only played 8 players and might have been worn down in OT.
geezer
Lamar won two of three on the road against middle of the pack teams, now they return home to take on the other top of the conference teams. A win Saturday against Corpus will place them with the tie-breakers if necessary.
Skinny1
Around the conference, the A&M- Commerce at UIW made it to the ESPN highlights, not for their crappy basketball teams, but because of a big time brawl during the end of game handshake line. Looked like most players on both teams were involved. Court side announcers stated that a young girl in the crowd was injured, and possibly a team manager. UIW lost game in OT. Interesting to see if SLC Conference office penalizes anyone. Tic Price is the director of conference basketball operations, so he maybe the one to investigate and dole out punishments. My guess it was started by the Catholics since they lost. Funny thing I noticed on the video, there seemed to be more people in the brawl than in the stands. They did not post their attendance, but could not be over 50! In the Lamar game tonight, SELa showed an attendance of less than 900. I guess the students were busy studying at that academic powerhouse.
coachacola
LU clinched a playoff spot in the SLC tournament. The top 4 teams get a first round bye. McNeese will be the top seed, no doubt. LU, TAMU-CC and Nicholls are fighting for the remaining 3 top spots. TAMU-CC probably has the easiest schedule remaining so let's give them the 2 spot for arguments sake, even if the lose to LU Saturday. LU and Nicholls have comparable schedules, with Nicholls still having to play McNeese plus ending the season with 3 road games. LU did beat them twice so advantage LU. Big difference between the 3 seed and 4 seed is that the 4 seed gets McNeese in the semi-finals. (Those close loses to HCU and UIW may come back to haunt them.) Best case scenario is LU makes it to the SLC championship game. Worst case scenario is they flounder and quietly fade away. https://www.southland.org/news/2024/1/20/general-2024-jersey-mikes-southland-basketball-tournament-presented-by-explore-louisiana-early-bird-all-session-tickets-on-sale-now.aspx
