geezer Posted September 4 Posted September 4 Lamar takes on Miss Valley Saturday at 6 PM. Miss Valley fell to Tenn St in their opening game in a battle of FCS schools. It is a home game against a FCS school so Lamar should be slightly favored. Keys for Lamar in my opinion are reducing the penalties, moving the ball consistently on offense and the d-line controlling the line of scrimmage. O-line needs to block better than last week to give Coleman time to get passes off and open holes for the backs to get to the second level. Quote
lu cards Posted September 4 Posted September 4 I’m expecting a win this week. Hopefully we don t have a let down and let them make this a game. Quote
coachacola Posted September 5 Posted September 5 Miss Valley looks to be one of the worst FCS teams out there. LU should win this one easily. Quote
WildCard Posted September 5 Posted September 5 Valley hasn't been good since Jerry Rice graduated. Lamar by a lot. Quote
TexGator Posted September 5 Posted September 5 Definitely going to enjoy watching this one on ESPN+ ... don't want to go and it end up being a rain game. Quote
redbird2002 Posted September 6 Posted September 6 Should be a win. Hopefully we get to better start than last week. The only only thing that could make this interesting is if it’s a monsoon in South Park. Other than that, should be Lamar by how many points they want. Quote
NorthoftheBorder Posted September 7 Posted September 7 One other observation, from the evidence I see through through last season and 1 game this year against a Group of 5 team who thinks they are better than everyone, Rossomondo is a quality coach and a great hire for LU. I think he can get us in the FCS playoffs and win consistently at Lamar, for as long as we can keep him! Quote
geezer Posted September 7 Author Posted September 7 Lamar forces MV to punt, then the offense moves down the field and finishes the drive with a touchdown pass to Rhea with 10:11 left in the first quarter. Quote
geezer Posted September 7 Author Posted September 7 Lamar defense has to clean up its play. Two penalties in the first two MV drives keeps MV offense on the field when they should have had to punt. Quote
geezer Posted September 7 Author Posted September 7 MV finishes their second drive with a four-yard pass and ties the game at seven. Quote
geezer Posted September 7 Author Posted September 7 Lamar offense answers with an eight play seventy-seven-yard drive to retake the lead 14-7. Quote
geezer Posted September 8 Author Posted September 8 Following a good punt return, Lamar scores on a sixty-three-yard pass from Coleman to Hyder. Quote
geezer Posted September 8 Author Posted September 8 Lamar up 21-7 at the half. Should probably be one or two more scores for Lamar but the penalties are killing consistency. Lamar has eleven penalties for 105 yards. Early in the game it was the defense, but by now the penalties are getting close to equal between the offense and the defense. Example, Lamar got the ball back with 1:20 left in the game, started to move the ball but then had a false start and two holding penalties to force just running the clock out. Quote
geezer Posted September 8 Author Posted September 8 Another penalty kills Lamar's opening drive of the second half. MV comes back with a solid drive to score on a twenty-yard touchdown pass to close the lead to 21-14 Lamar. Quote
geezer Posted September 8 Author Posted September 8 Lamar defense makes a big stop in the fourth quarter on a fourth and one play to get the ball back with 6:10 left in the game. Lamar drives down the field before a penalty pushes them back. A face mask penalty on MV gives LU a first down and Griffin scores to extend their lead to 28-14 with 1:04 left. Quote
geezer Posted September 8 Author Posted September 8 Although a very sloppy game for Lamar and way too many penalties, Lamar gets their first home opener win against a Div 1 school since 2014. Lamar wins 28-14. Quote
WildCard Posted September 8 Posted September 8 If you had the over for penalty yards, you're a winner. Lamar was penalized EIGHTEEN TIMES for 154 yards! If those aren't school records I'm glad I didn't see the game that beats those numbers. Sadly, I did see this one. Quote
coachacola Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Well I guess it's a good sign that LU can't lose even when they try. Quote
puddin tane Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Mannnn, this game was fugly and I’ll say it, even tho MY Flying Puddin offense has zero running plays,LU threw 30 too many passes. Mvst couldnt stop Griffin. 197 yds rushing! Dude is a total badass. run d was good, pass d sucked. Oline needs to get it together. Qb needs to step it up. Wr/te too many drops. Quote

At half. thats on him Quote
puddin tane Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Id have that entire team, except Griffin, running the stands till the sun comes up. Quote
LU17 Posted September 8 Posted September 8 You know, I watched the game on ESPN +. I noticed the down and distance displayed was almost always wrong. The broadcast was not good, but at least I could watch the game. My post is about all the penalties we had. Because I watched on ESPN +, they did not replay and show the specific player commit the penalty. I wonder how subjective the officiating was against us. However, I did see a player for MVSU take a swing at one of our lineman during our last touchdown play. He did it right in front of a ref and there was no call. The announcers reacted when it happened, but just like the official, they let it go. Quote
