NW State is definitely down this year.  Hope they get their program back on track soon. On paper, looks like an easy win.  LU needs to come in and handle business the way they are supposed to and not play down to the competition.

Anyone know the extent of the injury to McCown's left hand?  I think we are a better offensive team with him at QB.

I just listened to Rossamondo's presser from yesterday and he said McCown just got his bell rung and he is good to go for Saturday.

It's a nice "problem" to have to that Coleman is sitting close to being 3rd in career passing yards on the bench, should McCown need to take a game off. I'd prefer to have him in there... and for it to turn into a controlled scrimmage quickly like the Texas Southern game.

As I said about the TSU game, we need to "make it late... early."
Just put them away early and make the Demons get off-schedule where we can easily win and shift the focus to UIW.

It’s a nice problem to have with Coleman in the wings If we need him, but I think we are better on offense with McCown.

I watched a half of NW State early in the season.  To say they are down is a bit of an understatement.  New staff and I think the announcer said 40+ new players.  They looked as bad or worse than we’ve looked since bringing football back.  I’m sure they’ve gelled some since then but what I saw was rough.

November 25th?!  Who knew they get a whole month off between the last game and the next?

We should've had our lunch eaten three times now.  I realize the game isn't decided in the beginning, but I don't feel as though we've played a complete game yet.  If we let SFA or SELA out to a big lead and expect to use 4th-quarter heroics to steal those games, we might walk away with a loss.

Don't get me wrong--I'm very pleased and proud of this team thus far.  I just hope they can figure out what it is to keep the momentum going in the next three games from start to finish.

Were 108th in the nation (outta 126 teams) in total offense.    Probably doesn’t matter.

Yep, but we are 23rd in nation in Defense.  And if you take out the North Texas game where we had only 119 yds in offense and gave up 462 yds, we would climb in both categories.  For context UTRG is 8th in offense and 7th in defense in the nation.  Their schedule has several DII schools.  I would love for our offense to be racking up 450+ yds a game, but I am very happy with where we are at this point of the season.  Much better than we have normally been in our history at 7 games in.  And our schedule is not dogsh*t.

Looking at how Massey rates teams against FCS opponents only:

SFA (5 games): Schedule 42, Offense 32, Defense 6

SLU (5 games): Schedule 47, Offense 24, Defense 18

LU (6 games): Schedule 56, Offense 75, Defense 36

UIW (6 games): Schedule 23, Offense 26, Defense 32

UIW's defense is rated better than Lamar's yet they lost in a high scoring shootout at home to East Texas A&M.

SLU has two shutout games in a row.  Lamar better be 8-1 heading into that game or the season could end up on a very sour note.

I think that SFA worries me more than SLU, but the Lions appear to be pretty salty themselves this year.  I am thinking that the Southland will be a two team playoff league this year, but they might get three.  Not sure what scenario puts them at three, but I do not think it includes LU winning the league.  If LU wins it, then one of the other two will have 4 losses, and that wont cut it for the SLC.

But lets get by NW & UIW first, then we can start talking about playoffs.

I think only two teams will make the playoffs.  I think LU can afford to lose one more game (except to MW State) and they make the playoffs at 10-2.  SLU and SFA have to win out.  A 9-3 record probably won't be good enough for a third team to make it.

I agree with your analysis.

I know that it is typical for coaches to heap praise on the upcoming opponent, but I think that the two things that McCorkle said about Lamar that is beyond the normal coach speak is the culture and the fact that LU has the fewest transfers out. And his statement that he would want his son to play at LU if his son didn't play for him.

Lamar needs to win period, but Lamar might have a chance at 9-3 depending on who the losses are to.  South Dakota currently is in fourth place in their conference, and I am pretty sure if the stay in that spot they will get an invite and since Lamar defeated them it will be a lot of disrespect to both Lamar and the conference if they got in and Lamar didn't with the same records.

One other thing, the SLC has to play and defeat both Big Sky and Missouri Valley Football Conference teams in the future.

Cards stop NWST on their first possession then move down the field to get stopped by a penalty and a sack.  Kick a field goal for the early 3-0 lead.  Coleman started at QB, don't know if McCown is available or not.
