lu cards Posted Tuesday at 01:45 PM Posted Tuesday at 01:45 PM Looks like we will be searching for a new coach. AD has been pretty good at finding the right guy. Quote
TexGator Posted Tuesday at 06:43 PM Posted Tuesday at 06:43 PM Just saw that he's bringing Hutchins and Hatten with him. Guess that means we're starting from scratch. And this after the high of the last 3-1/2 days. Do we go after his old player and try to convince Nolan Cain to leave being an assistant at Texas to take the gig? Do we go after Chris Lemonis? (Dude won a title at Mississippi State and got Indiana to the tournament 3 of his 4 years there before getting the job in Starkville- though I'd have questions about what caused the wheels to fall off after that year) Do we try to convince Hatten to stick around? Do we steal Barbier from Southeastern with the thought being that he got Southeastern a pair of RS titles with fewer resources (it would be his 3rd different SLC school)? Any thoughts on what O'Malley has up his sleeve? Quote
geezer Posted Tuesday at 08:06 PM Posted Tuesday at 08:06 PM 2027 is likely to be a really ugly year. Trying to fill all of the voids in players and coaches in the little time available won't be easy. Quote
puddin tane Posted Tuesday at 11:42 PM Posted Tuesday at 11:42 PM Dont know much about him, but dude at ut-tyler has built a helluva program. whoever they hire better bring his team, cuz Davis and his senior portal strategy has the cupboard bare Quote
puddin tane Posted Tuesday at 11:46 PM Posted Tuesday at 11:46 PM And he shouldnt be coaching the regional! Quote

RustyG Posted Wednesday at 01:15 AM Posted Wednesday at 01:15 AM Having to get accustomed to a whole new team every year softens the blow of a new coach. Quote

coachacola Posted Wednesday at 06:01 PM Posted Wednesday at 06:01 PM I like Coach Davis but it did take him 10 years to get LU into the playoffs. Jeff O'Malley seems to be doing a good job of picking the right coaches. The way college sports is setup now it's more about money. I'm pretty confident LU will bring in a competent coach. Does LU have the NIL money to bring in enough portal players to make a difference next year? We shall see. Quote

I’m afraid the current NIL system has me a little jaded. Almost the whole team are Senior transfers who aren’t affected. Of the handful with years left, how many of them were already talking to other teams? Quote
TexGator Posted Wednesday at 07:23 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:23 PM OK- I looked at the D2 and D3 ranks. I feel like the first call needs to be Joe Urso at Tampa. - 13 College World Series appearances. - 7 CWS titles - 1110-302-1 in 26 seasons (43-12 average... record even with only a combined 51 games between the two COVID seasons) Interesting that he never got tapped by a college to take over their program in spite of his insanely good record. He may just really like the situation he is in and hasn't gone looking. Tampa Bay or Beaumont, where would you rather live? Quote
NorthoftheBorder Posted Friday at 12:24 AM Posted Friday at 12:24 AM No word on who will coach LUin the regional? Quote

Tampa Bay or Beaumont, where would you rather live? That's 100% understandable- Tampa's a very nice city and I'm sure he's being supported. The counter to that is the fact he's won a LOT at Tampa and there's little else to prove so the chance to build something elsewhere might be appetizing since the donors obviously will support the program. But I want to focus on this game. O'Malley knows what he's doing. Quote
POLKCHOP Posted yesterday at 02:30 PM Posted yesterday at 02:30 PM And how many players will hit the portal?? Half+ Quote

Half+ One catcher i never heard of already has said he will. I can only think of two that probably would go with davis. Other than that, we dont have many seniors….or, underclassmen that actually played. Hell, Davis was redoing the roster every year anyway. Id hate being an underclassman on a Will Davis team. Quote
puddin tane Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Something just doesnt add up. Unless UH had some sorta arrangement with Davis like he had when he inherited job from Gilligan. when did they interview him? During SLC playoffs? During conference? U of H coach was toast, probably new by end of march (if not sooner)he was gone. So, when did Davis interview? no coach would leave the depth chart so thin, if he was planning on coming back. also dont think it took anyone by surprise, omalley had to have known. screwy timeline on all this, in my opinion Quote
geezer Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago The Davis era is officially over as Lamar gives up nineteen runs to USC. Cards did manage to score six. Quote
RustyG Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Glad he tried to pitch and play everybody. With the added bonus of taking 4 hours and making the aggie dipsticks wait around. Quote
lu cards Posted 17 hours ago Author Posted 17 hours ago Would love to see us announce new coach tomorrow. Doubt it will happen but time is of the essence. Quote
NorthoftheBorder Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago As usual, when we lose a tough game to a big time opponent, we always just gag the next game. Maybe next year! Quote
