coachacola Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 Lamar Game Noteshttp://grfx.cstv.com/graphics/icon-acrosmall.gif | Houston Baptist Game Noteshttp://grfx.cstv.com/graphics/icon-acrosmall.gif | ESPN3 | Audio | Live Stats | 2014 Homecoming Parade Route & Street Closureshttp://grfx.cstv.com/graphics/icon-acrosmall.gif It has been two weeks since the Lamar Cardinals last stepped on the field to face an opponent in a different uniform - that day Big Red walked away with a record-setting victory over Nicholls. The Cardinals (5-3/2-2 Southland) left Thibodaux with a school-record 42-point margin of victory, school-record 63 points against an SLC school and a school-record 691 yards of total offense while quarterback Caleb Berry became the school all-time leader in completions, passing yards and yards of total offense. In similar fashion, the Cardinals upcoming opponent - Houston Baptist - is also coming off a historic victory against the Colonels. A conference newcomer, HBU scored 31 points to pick up their first league victory. The Cardinals enter the week in a two-way tie for sixth in the league standings, but only a game back of the leaders in the loss column. Houston Baptist is 2-6 (.250) on the season, and in a two-way tie for ninth in the conference with a 1-4 (.200) mark. Both schools enter Saturday's game looking for their second consecutive conference victory. http://www.lamarcardinals.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/103014aab.html Quote
LUSportsFan Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 Sounds like great football weather! Looking forward to it. Both my wife and I have new jackets that we can test out at the game. Both jackets have already been tested out in Colorado so this will be a Southeast Texas test. Quote
eagle eye Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Lamar needs to take care of business here. The season is a disappointment for sure considering how close we were to beating steams like SELA and SAM and McNeese last season and the outlook appeared to be better for this season. Still we are 5-3 on the season with a good chance of winning 3 in a row heading into the season finale against McNeese. Even if we go 2-1 before the McNeese game with will be 7-4 and guaranteed a winning record for the first time since Lamar football came back. I certainly don't want to count any chickens here but it will be nice to see the Cards above .500. Quote
LUFAN Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Good lord the new PA announcer made the game much more exciting... this game was very long so left early my 3 year old made it almost 3 hours... but god bob is much better than the other guy hope he keeps doing the football games. Quote
lu cards Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Missed my first home game this year.how was the crowd? Quote
geezer Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Best crowd I have seen on the student side. Lamar did what they were supposed to and gave a lot of younger players playing time. Berry, Harrington, Roberts and Begelton did not play at all in the second half. Quote
KABrother88 Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Home set left a lot to be desired...but decent for opening weekend and pretty cool to boot...the live stat site says 10,212...they let portions of several local HS bands on the field with them so that drew a few extras...a left after the first LU drive in the 2nd half...needed to get home to the wife and kid...but probably 90% of the students left after the homecoming court Quote
KABrother88 Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Let's not forget prayers for #11 from HBU...was a nasty shot he took. His parents were sitting right by us and they were understandably very shaken up but the trainers said they felt a concussion was the extent of it although it was a bad one Quote
BigNasty92 Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 New PA Announcer!!! That was one off the first things I notice last night. MUCH BETTER, IMO. Quote

I was wondering this morning what the extent of his injuries were. I was on the.LU sidelines right by where he got hit. One of the nastiest collisions I've ever seen. Glad to know that is all they thought It was. Quote
geezer Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 I won't say I am happy with the win/loss record this year but rather than call it a disappointment, I would say the results are less than what many hoped for but realistically the program is still improving. LU started the year with basically an unproven O-line and very few returning defensive starters. If there is one real disappointment for me it is special teams. For most of the year the kickoff coverage has been terrible and punt coverage hasn't been much better. Offensively Lamar played the worst game of the season against Sam Houston. Mistakes cost LU any chance of winning the game. We played decent against SELA the first half but got beat in the second half. SELA was expected to win conference. SELA still probably has the best quarterback in the league overall and the transfers that Sam picked up have delivered. The losses are to two of the top three teams in the conference. Next weeks game at UCA looks to be winnable as they lost to ACU this past Saturday who LU defeated, but that loss may result in UCA putting together a much more focused game against LU. Let's see how the last three games play out before deciding what kind of season it was. Quote
lu cards Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Just got done watching the game and it reminded me of our first season back against sfa.just total domination.we also didn't miss kj at all.we finally took a kick off and went up field. Quote

LUFAN Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 I will say this.. i bet caleb malveaux from nederland wishes he went to LU now... that was an ass whoopin of epic proportions.. that was one of the best atmospheres we have had in quite a while.. but why the hell do they keep taking the beach balls away from the crowds... No fun league... Plus they need to keep bob as the football anouncer! Quote

I'm just asking, not trying to start a fight. Sometimes we don't know why kids (and their families) make the decisions they make. Quote
coachacola Posted November 4, 2014 Author Posted November 4, 2014 I believe Malveaux chose HBU over LU, those where his top choices. My guess is that he chose HBU because he could start right away instead of having to sit behind Tebo. Now if LU was running a 4-3 instead of a 3-4 then maybe we'd have both Tebo and Malveaux starting up front for LU. Quote

KABrother88 Posted November 4, 2014 Posted November 4, 2014 (edited) I remember this situation. The PA News originally posted an article about Malveaux saying he was committed to LU...a few weeks before NSD they posted another article that said he was committed to UIW (then he flipped to HBU the weekend before NSD) and he said he was never committed to LU (never said if he indeed had an offer but we left him listed him on our 2014 recruiting list as having an offer since the PA News had said he was committed at one point). LU also had Seth Adams committed fairly early and being a 3 man front with Tebo a rising Sophomore, Frost a rising Junior, and Adams committed Malveaux could have even had his offer become non-committable. Edit: his "commitment" http://www.bigredinsider.com/forums/showthread.php?2852-2014-Football-Recruiting-Thread/page2 His commitment to UIW http://www.bigredinsider.com/forums/showthread.php?2852-2014-Football-Recruiting-Thread/page7 PA News links don't work FYI Edited November 4, 2014 by KABrother88 Quote
