geezer Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Lamar down by ten at halftime. Kept it close until about three minutes left in the half then Fresno popped the lead out. Fouls were pretty one sided in the half which took most of Lamar's height out of the game toward the end of the half. Quote
geezer Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Lamar started two freshmen, one new juco transfer and two returning players. Fresno is taller than Lamar across the board for the starters. Quote
geezer Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Final score Fresno St 80 Lamar 72 Fresno had 16 more shots than Lamar, Out rebounded Lamar by twelve. second half fouls were closer to even but the foul trouble hurt Lamar. I'm sure Tic will find plenty of things Lamar needs to improve when he reviews the video of the game, but overall Lamar played hard and never quit trying to come back. Impressed with the newcomers as a whole. Quote
Big T Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 This is a game that even last year Lamar would have lost by 25+ points. I am seeing some great growth out of this team. Booze and Garth are both going to be stars. Have to admit that I am underwhelmed by Chapman so far this year. Of course, this is only his second DI game. Bosha has not looked right. Lets hope he can be in top shape by the time that conference hits. Kennedy needs to learn that when you swat down at a ball it will be a foul 99.99% of the time. Davis and Boaz Williams are going to be solid players for us this season. Overall, I was happy with how thy fought last night, we just need to learn how to translate effort into wins. I think Tic Price will have this team close to 20 wins when it is all said and done this season. Great job by the guys even if the result was a L. Quote
Sweet T Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 (edited) Too much one on one at times. Some players need to learn how to drive and dish out to the open perimeter player; instead of, trying to shoot over 3 people. Booze is playing well. Bosha is super frustrated. He is not in optimal shape; therefore, he does not get a lot of playing time. He looks totally out of sync when he is in the game. He didn't get to gel with the players in the off season. He is open alot and can't get the ball sometimes. The fact that he has asthma doesnt help the situation. I think he will be great once he is conditioned. He is playing well in practice. I feel really bad for him. We are trying to encourage him and let him know he will be ok. He has a lot of family support. Edited November 17, 2015 by Sweet T Quote
Sweet T Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Zjori has suffered a meniscus tear, a pcl, mcl tear and a severe groin injury which resulted in him having to have it debrided and scraped down without an incision in less then a year. His skin was scraped to get to the muscle. We are praying that he can remain healthy and I think he is afraid of getting hurt again. That is my opinion. Quote
lu cards Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 watched the second half and was very impressed with our young team.best looking group of freshmen ive seen at lu in a long time.chapman is going to be a flat out stud before he's done at lamar and I really like the garth kid as well.future looks very bright for the cards. eagle eye Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Fresno is no cupcake and Lamar played a nice game on the road. There seems to be a lot of upside to this roster and I will be in the Montagne to watch these guys (and gals) play some hoops this season. Quote
Sweet T Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 They also can be frustrating to watch. I saw Marcos Owens; as well as, Zjori wide open one the perimeter. They refused to pass it to them opting to drive and run into 5 people in the lane. I can't figure out why they don't drive and dish out. They will also drive and run into 4 people and then try to pass the ball to Dorian when he is only 2 feet from then. ANNOYING Quote
geezer Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Most of these young men haven't made the adjustment form high school or juco to D1 basketball yet. They don't understand that everyone on the opposite team is probably their equal. Most of these young men rarely played head to head against someone of equal abilities and definitely not where the other four defenders were their equal in talent. It takes time to learn that what you got away with at a lower level won't work at this level. Some never learn. Quote
Sweet T Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 That makes a lot of sense. I never thought about it like you just explained it. Now I won't be so irritated. I thought they were purposely trying to keep the ball away from certain players Quote
