Roster Update

The online roster has been updated to add jersey numbers to all incoming freshman. Couple things I've noticed were:

Clayton Turner has moved from QB to WR which was something that was speculated as a possibility.

JC signee Demontrai Lewis is no longer listed. Looks like he might not have made it in.

HS signee LB Del'Chaun Rushing & K/P Mitchell Gray from Australia are not listed but I've been told they are still expected to be in school this week.

Will Harrington rush for 2,000 yards again? No, unless the offense is gobbling up yards faster then me running for the fridge. I think that Lamar's passing attack is going to be the most productive since football returned, plus Earp can run the ball.

Looking at the roster, I think that I would pencil in #36, Cameron Minger, for significant playing time. Just look at his roster picture and you'll see what I mean. Another freshman LB that I have liked since watching his HUDL films is #49, David Crosley. On HUDL, he hit someone and they stopped and dropped.

The DL is thin in numbers but decent size. I still wonder what happened to #93, William Wowkanyn. He was there and then not, even though he was dressed and on the sidelines?

I wonder what happened to Case Robinson, the kid out of Corsicana?

Walk-ons won't be listed until after they report. Technically they are not part of the program yet. Scholarship incoming players are bound by thier LOI so they can be recognized by the school...walk-ons are basically still just verbal commits.

I agree with you about Minger though and I'll throw in Del'Chaun Rushing who I mentioned earlier in his category as well. I was watching a replay of last season's TCU vs Texas game the other day because I don't have a life and football needs to get here fast lol, but one thing that was mentioned by the announcers was that TCU coach Gary Patterson likes to use LBs who are small but faster than traditional LBs in his 4-2-5. That could be a foreshadowing of what we will see under Haverty who learned from Patterson. Minger and Rushing both fit that bill at right around 6'0" 200 lbs and can run. Minger is the only prospect I've ever seen who had track highlights in his Hudl.

As lu cards mention, Wowkonyan is still listed and I expect he'll play a lot this season as a 3-tech DT...he is very quick off the ball and could have a really good season i feel like.

I watch replays of last year's OU vs Texas game. It never gets old. Then I go to youtube and watch the Hitler reaction to OU losing to Texas, a classic. What is the cherry on top is that Charlie Strong puts tough teams on the field and OU is going to find out what getting mugged feels like. Ask Baker Mayfield how he felt after the game last year. He's lucky he still has his teeth. Maybe he loses a few in 2016, the lord willin' and the creek don't rise.

We went from first in 2014, to 9th in 2015. Berry rewrote the record books. Most productive? Hell, I just hope we throw it more than 15 times a game.

Let's lighten up on the Charlie Strong stuff. Yeah UT beat OU but this rivalry is rife with head scratching upsets. Let's not talk about Strong's tough teams until he has a winning record okay? UT may be the biggest beneficiary of the meltdown in Waco but I am not convinced he's all that great a coach. He did okay at Louisville, not great, ok but so far at Texas with the recruiting clout of the Longhorns he has done bupkis. I think we have found an OU hater in Dracula.

As for the Cardinals, small fast defenses have been successful but it usually comes with a high scoring offense. If games are a slugfest a lighter team often is overwhelmed. I'm not gloom and doom here but all I'm saying is I hope Dracula was right when he foresaw the Cards being a high powered offense behind Kade and Carson. A high scoring offense puts a lot of pressure on an opposing offense to keep up. A small-ish fast defense can be very effective when teams are forced to do what they normally don't like to do like throw the ball a lot. Sacks and INT's come such things.

Yes I am. I don't care if Texas goes o-fer for the rest of the season as long as those OU fans have to make that 200 mile trip home cursing bob stoopes the whole way. True story. Years ago, I had to spend a few days every week in OKC. OU was playing USC for the national championship and the locals were letting me have it. Finally, I bet the bunch of them that not only was OU going to lose but I would spot them 14 points but they had to give me 3-1 odds. They tripped over each other trying to get some of that action. USC abused OU 55-19. I made some money that day and I could still hear them crying when I crossed the Red River. By the way, OU still sucks.

This is what scares me. Larry Kueck was the OC for Berry, then he retires and Langston is promoted to OC for the 2015 season. Is Langston competent as an OC?

I think the quarterback injuries last year had a lot to do with the play calling. The way Harrington was running made it easy for the staff to go one dimensional. Also wondering how much injuries may have hurt the defense over the course of the season, if you compare the start of the year with the end of the year.

If injuries are the problem, recruit more depth.

We've seen progress in the program, but we should be better. There's no reason for SELA or Nicholls State to beat us. Their facilities rival PN-G's.

It's only a matter of time until Ray Woodard gets shown the door. :flush:

I think this year will be woodards last if lamar doesn't have a big year.i like Woodard and the way he's recruited and run the program.his downfall has been his onfield success.needs to be in the playoff picture and go atleast 8-3 to keep his job.

  • 2 weeks later...

Another update to the roster.

Washington State transfer DeWan Thompson added. Will be a RS-So this season after spending the last 2 seasons at WSU.

Pierce JC LB Tanner Kanteman added...his JC teammate who signed a few weeks ago is not listed yet however...I don't think he HS made it to campus yet.

Freshman Punter Mitchell Gray and LB Del'Chaun Rushing were added back.

Walk-On QB Case Robinson and WR Garrison Spring also added.

New name I haven't seen is Freshman OL Kingsley Onyirioha out of St. Pius X HS in Houston. Had an offer from SFA. Hudl film is all defense and 247 listed him as a 6'2" 275 lbs DT. Film looks like he could end up being another good walk-on find if he goes back to D...no offensive film to judge how he looks there.
