Cards Host UIW on Senior Night

The Lamar University football team enters the final home game of the 2016 regular season looking to prove to the rest of the conference they can overcome adversity. The term adversity is defined as adverse or unfavorable fortune or fate; a condition marked by misfortune, calamity, or distress. After a season that has seen the Cardinals lose numerous starters to injuries, including a stretch of one starter each week for a month, adversity seems like the only constant to the Cardinals 2016 season.

In addition to the coaching staff's hectic search to put together a healthy depth chart on what seems like a day-to-day basis, the team is also trying to put an end to a three-game slide that has watched Big Red slip from the upper echelon of the SLC standings.

The Cardinals enter the senior night showdown against Incarnate Word tied for sixth in the Southland, two games up on their opponents. The Cardinals (3-6/3-4 SLC) have been in this situation before opening the year 0-3, but rebounding by rattling off a three-game win streak.

LU will look to stop its current slide against an Incarnate Word squad that has had its own struggles this season. UIW enters Saturday having lost seven-straight after a three-point victory over Northwestern State in the second week of the season. San Antonio's version of the Cardinals are tied for 10th in the league standings with a 1-8 (.111) overall record and a 1-6 (.143) mark in conference play.

Lamar had the receiver stopped and when the defender twisted him down the receiver rolled over the LU defender and got up without touching the ground according to the officials and then ran in for a touchdown as the Lamar defender did not keep hold of the receiver until the whistle blew.

After trading punts UIW has a nice drive ending with a 35 yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 14. Can Lamar sustain an offensive drive? Morse has not seemed to be as accurate as he was the first game he came into this year but the lack of a consistent running game is hurting Lamar also.

Langley returns a 2nd punt for a touchdown to give Lamar a 28-21 lead with 10:08 left in the game. All of Lamar's touchdowns tonight have some element of the special teams group involved. Lamar needs another defensive stop and then a sustained drive to eat up the clock.

Dan Gresham made a good point on the broadcast....even though he is well liked in the community...is Ray Woodard the guy to take us to the next level? what say all of you?

I thought we covered this in the Lamar vs Nicholls thread. But, what the hay, no. It looks to me that Woodard has made it as far as he can go. Bless his heart and I sincerely mean that.

I think there Ray and his staff need to start thinking about their next big decision: ReMax or American.

That said, I really think they give him one more year. I don't agree, but Lamar Administration will be hesitant to make a move and buy him out.

Man, I'll have to say I'm a bit excited about Morse. He has a really good arm and he actually has a little agility. And he looks very comfortable in the pocket. Other than that, we suck
