JohnnyBGood
He won't do it and why would he? That would leave a lot of money on the table.
Dracula
As the season has played out, it's gotten more obvious to me that someone has got to go. I've been thinking that it was going to be the OC that was going to be thrown under the bus. But, these last few home games have changed my mind. I think that the HC needs to go and you know that a new guy will form a new staff. I feel bad for the chaos that is going to hit the affected coaches and their families but I just don't see how the Lamar administration goes along for another year. Someone posted, on another thread, that the 2017 signing class had to be smaller than recent years due to the number of scholarships available. This would be the time to change and cause the least impact on recruiting. That's my thinking.
eagle eye
I saw improvement in the team when the fire Ray talk was going strong a couple of years ago but I was for giving him more time since the team was steadily improving. Then the defense collapsed last year and LU looked over matched and clueless after Joe Minden went down. It was a pathetic collapse after starting the season with strong performances against Baylor, SAM and SELA in back to back weeks Lamar just fell of the proverbial cliff. This season has been a disaster from the first snap. I feel like Ray has had time and the team has not just taken a step or two backwards they got on the bus and slammed that puppy in reverse. My biggest hope when football came back to LU was that they did it right this time. The first time around the team wasn't good, ever. They showed signs of being good under Larry Kennan but that's about it and it was sad and inept Ray Alborn that buried the program. I don't want to see this team flounder around and be mediocre, or worse. It's time to move on from Coach Woodard. You feel bad about uprooting families but that is the nature of the coaching business. It is the ultimate "what have you done for me lately" career and if you don't have success you get to pack up and move. Nothing personal, but Ray needs to go. Alborn didn't bury the program last go round. They had been talking about dropping football since the 70's. Ray Alborn was actually building a program when they pulled the plug and fucked over everyone. It was inept university leadership that buried the program. geezer
I agree Alborn was turning the program around and if they had given him another year he might well have had a winning season and the leadership would not have been able to pull the plug without some major backlash. As it was Lamar finished that year at 5 and 5. They played four schools that are FBS that year splitting wins and losses. eagle eye
Perhaps a bit of revisionist history on my part. My clearest recollection of those times was the Cardinals getting their asses kicked weekly, sort of like what happening now. Whatever the reason I'm entitled my opinion and didn't think much of Ray Alborn especially after he got involved in a fight that took place either before or after a game. You don't see coaches do that. My original point was that Lamar was known as a losing program and nobody went to games. The last game I went to back then was a home game against Baylor when they had Mike Singletary (yes, THAT Mike Singletary) at linebacker and RB George Abercrombe. The game was notable because somebody turned on the sprinklers on the Baylor band at halftime. There weren't too many fans in the seats even for Baylor that night. That was the first game of the 1980 season and Lamar under Larry Kennan beat Baylor in Waco the following year. As I said, there was a flicker of hope because Larry Kennon was the best coach in my lifetime at Lamar and it was inevitable he would go on the bigger and better, in his case the NFL. Kennan had a long career as an NFL assistant coach. Ironically enough, Kennan is the coach at Incarnate Word. Again, my point was I had hoped for better than the old status quo of nearly 30 years ago when the program was brought back but, after the past two highly disappointing seasons I think it's time for a change. I'm not here to step on anyone's feelings about who was what in days gone by I just want the Cardinals to have program to be proud of. I don't want another go round of lovable losers. That is all I'm saying.

eagle eye
Puddin, why are we quibbling over a game we lost 36 years ago when the point of the post was we need a new coach on THIS team? Seriously. I don’t recall there being standing room only at Cardinal Stadium that night. The paid attendance may have been 18.5K but I just don’t remember the crowd being that big. But, it doesn’t really matter because it wasn’t the point of the post. Can we just agree Ray Woodard needs to be replaced? Or not? It’s my own fault for dragging up the past and obviously a 42-7 ass whooping holds some special memory for you since you are fixating on that. I never meant to step on anyone’s toes over something like that. Fire Ray and don’t try to go cheap on the next man up, that’s all I’m saying.
