NISC Softball Tourney Championship Round

Lu has the top of the order up in the bottom of the 7th. McDowell grounded out to ss. Brittany Rodriguez flew out to LF. Brynn Baca lined out to LF as LU goes down 1-2-3 in the 7th as they lose by the score of 8-5.

 

According to the bracket on womensnisc.com the deciding game will be played this afternoon. Tough break for LU and for Ciara Luna to lose in Liberty's last at-bat. Let's see a big rebound in the next game. This is a double elimination tournament and this is LU's first loss in the Chamionship tournament bracket.

BTW, all games in this Championship Round will have been played in Lynchburg Virginia which happens to be Liberty University's home field. Pretty nice to win it all on the road in their opponents home stadium. Priceless. Go Lady Cards!!!!

Lu will need to tighten up on defense in game 2. Luna's stat line was 6.1 IP w/ 10 H, 2 BB and 1 K. The telling stat is she allowed 8 runs but only 3 were earned. The defense was charged with a whopping 5 errors. Need to do much better if they hope to win the next game.

Just found the start time for game 2. It is scheduled for 4:40 pm. I don't know if this game will be on espn the ocho (3) or not. Does anyone know about the TV coverage?

Holy crap, that 4:40 was edt. Game 2 is on right now! LU is the visiting team in this game and they are batting in the top of the first. So far there are 2 outs as the first two batters grounded out and popped out to start the game. Brynn Baca walked. Sable Hankins walked on 4 pitches. Kelly Meeuwsen struck out to end the top of the first.

After 2 full innings there is no score. I am out of here because I am leaving work. Go Lady Cards!!!

This is about the biggest bummer I can think of. Lamar is declared the loser although they were ahead 5-3 in the bottom of the sixth with two out for Liberty. I know this has been the rule in softball and baseball for years, but it is still a bummer. Congratulations to the girls as they represented the Cardinals to the best of their abilities. Had they finished the inning before the rain delay began Lamar would have won, but that is softball and that is baseball. No Excuses is what coach Bruder said yesterday and I know as bad as this hurts not to have finished it is still a great accomplishment for the Lamar Cardinal Softball program.

Sucks the rain hit when it did as the Lady Cards had already pushed 4 across when they stopped the game. On the bright side, all but 3 players will return next season so this post season experience is fantastic for those players and helps build more winning tradition. The 3 seniors that will be lost will be tough to replace though. Brynn Baca was the 2nd leading hitter and backstop, Ashley McDowell has her name all over the Lamar career record book, and Pitcher Ciara Luna started 37 of the teams 65 games and appeared in relief in another 7...so she pitched in over 2/3 of the games this season.

Ugly way to end the final game of your inaugural tournament. It had rained pretty much off and on all week. I've seen the rule invoked like this once in little league baseball due to time restrictions on finishing a tournament but this is different imho. The time I saw it was due to the lightning monitor going off. This was just rain, plain old rain just like every other day of the tournament. You've GOT to find a way to get that last out done in this situation. I'm pretty sure the director realized that later as he tweeted that he made a bad decision and it's all on him. On a lighter point, AWESOME showing by the Lady Cards. You made us all proud!! #PeckEm

I know this loss is old news but.... i wanted to take the opportunity to point out that LU had ZERO administrative representation at that championship game.

 

Once again.... JH sh!ts the bed. Our coaches deserve more AD office support than that.

I have let this loss stew for a few days now that even permeated the Memorial Day weekend and I just have to vent. I think it was chickensh*t what happened. It was the championship game. Of course the same thing would need to be asked if Liberty had taken that lead they acquired because of the 3 run home run in the top of the 6th if the same rainout situation happened would the victory have gone to Lamar? Or would the game have waited to see if the rain passed? Or would they have scheduled the last out to be played the next day if the rain didn't go away? The Ladies made their own 6th inning comeback and they deserved to win. The rain had been worse earlier in the game but when Lamar was leading it was too hard and had to be called? Are you kidding me. What snow job the NISC perpetrated on our Lady Cards. Chickensh*t, chickensh*t, chickensh*t. It I was on the Liberty team I would have been ashamed to be handed the championship the way it was. I sure as hell wouldn't have been smiling. The thing is, Liberty had an at-bat after that last out was made because they were the home team in that game. Decide the thing on the field. That way nobody goes home feeling like they had 12 inches shoved up their backside. Did I mention I think the tournament leader were chickensh*t? If not, here it is. The tournament directors are SO CHICKENSH*T!!!!

Big Nasty, JH was probably at the archery national championships cheering on one of our national champions... NOT...I couldn't agree with you more. It seems like tv is always looking for a rep from the university's to speak on tv about their schools. With that said, I thought Coach Bruder did a great job when interviewed during the game.

As a huge ACU softball fan I was following your tourney after the Wildcats got knocked out.

 

You got robbed for sure. That game should have been completed somehow.

 

Anyway, congrats for representing all of the SLC in great fashion.
