KABrother88 Posted December 12, 2019 Author Posted December 12, 2019 If Blane Morgan does get hired we probably won't see him until after SDSU's bowl game on Dec 21: https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/aztecs/story/2019-12-12/san-diego-state-aztecs-football-sdsu-quarterback-coach-blane-morgan-lamar-university-head-coach That sounds like a terrible head coach to be under. Every year assistants take new head coaching positions at other schools and typically they leave the prior team then. Usually the only times they remain on staff for the bowl game is when the old team is in the playoffs and chasing a national championship...happened multiple times with Alabama in the last few years. With the introduction of the December signing period you are killing any chance for the coach to establish relationships with recruits for his new school and setting him up to fail. 99.9% of coaches in the nation want the chance to ultimately be a head coach...now the SDSU HC wants to handcuff and openly threaten an assistant who is potentially achieving that goal...and doing it at a school that should not even be a blip on his radar. That is messed up. Quote

coachacola Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 This hire makes ZERO sense. Zero, zilch, nada, none!!! That's one LU football tradition that has withstood the test of time! Quote

lamarfan360 Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Like most of you, Blane Morgan isn't who I would have picked as Head Coach of LU football. But, I am going to continue to support the football program and attend as many games as possible. I'm be cheering on Coach Morgan and the rest of the Cardinals as faithful as I have in the past. I'm pulling for Coach Morgan and I believe he'll succeed. Quote
Dracula Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 Coach Morgan may not be the shiny new Christmas toy, that we wanted, but shirts and underwear was more of a practical gift. I'll settle for shirts and underwear Morgan. Besides, we haven't seen the makeup of his staff. He could bring in a shiny new OC. Quote
LU1991 Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 I'm looking forward to seeing a young energetic coach on the sidelines. Welcome to Lamar Coach Morgan! Quote
LU17 Posted December 12, 2019 Posted December 12, 2019 I don’t understand the hire. No head coaching experience. OC/QB coach at Air Force. What does the OC/QB coach do at AF. They rarely throw and the basically run the same play to both sides of the field. He did get removed as the OC at Air Force which worries me, and a mediocre at best offense at SDSU. I am disappointed this is the best Born could come up with. I wish we new why he got the job. Quote
KABrother88 Posted December 12, 2019 Author Posted December 12, 2019 Lamar makes it official. Presser will be at 1:00 Friday afternoon https://lamarcardinals.com/news/2019/12/12/blane-morgan-named-lu-head-football-coach.aspx Quote
SportsGuy Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 Heard from a player on one of his teams - played defense - said his players love him. Everyone loves him. Hopefully he can be a CEO and get dial up some magic! Quote

NorthoftheBorder Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 That's one LU football tradition that has withstood the test of time! Does anyone know if Morgan has a connection with someone at LU? Generally through the years, it has been the "Good Ole Boy" syndrome at Pecker Tech where the best person wasn't hired, but someone who had connections with the powers at be that gets the job. Just wondering. Then again, Morgan may be way better than Walden will ever be and we will all love him and be severely depressed when he leaves. Quote
puddin tane Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 Im holding on to a glimmer of hope that “veer, wishbone or flexbone” arent uttered at press conference. Quote
Bird Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 SDSU attempted 366 passes this year (which is 90 attempts more than Lamar in 2018), so that's around 30 attempts a game- not very wishbone like. Heres hoping for an explosive offense! Quote
lamarfan360 Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 (edited) Anyone remember Coach Morgan's older brother Beau? He went to the Dallas Cowboys training camp a couple of years as a RB and DB. As a college QB, he came in 10th in the Heisman Trophy balloting. Edited December 13, 2019 by lamarfan360 Quote
geezer Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 I know Puddin wouldn't mind seeing the ball thrown on every offensive play, but I enjoyed Kade Harrington's running. If you're going to pass you need to complete them. Only thing worse than three and out on three straight running plays is three straight incompletions. The first takes about three minutes of game time the second takes maybe forty five seconds. I hope Coach Morgan can develop a QB with a good completion percentage and an O-line that can protect the QB and open some holes for the running backs. I also hope he has a QB recruit in mind as neither of the potential returning QBs had a decent completion percentage. Won't say that Schultz left the cupboards empty but the QB cupboard sure doesn't have much in it. Quote
geezer Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 Question. if Dallas decided to give it another go next fall how much eligibility would he have? Quote

I was hoping it was all just a bad dream. I’d love to see the list of names we were considering, I bet I would have had him at the bottom. Quote

coachacola Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 Here’s an older article on Blane Morgan. https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/aztecs/sdut-aztecs-blane-morgan-qb-coach-like-rocky-long-2015feb09-story.html From this article and another I read, I think he’ll be throwing the ball more than what we expect. Dracula Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 I think we're being too harsh on the guy. The press conference is today. I think we'll see that all is not lost. Quote
Dracula Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 We're going to be alright. Watch the arrival video and what a lovely family. He's a good guy and probably a pretty good Texas area recruiter. Get your playoff ticket money ready. Quote

He's a good guy and probably a pretty good Texas area recruiter. Get your playoff ticket money ready. Sounds great but I doubt we'll be in the playoffs next year. Anytime a new regime takes over I like to cut the new guy some slack in Year 1 - because you're hitting the reset button and establishing a new culture - players, coaching staff, etc.... So let's brace ourselves for 3-9, 4-8 at the worst but who knows - we could pull an Incarnate Word with Eric Morris in his first season and make the playoffs!! Quote
