http://www.southland.org/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=18400&KEY=&ATCLID=945973 We now know definitively that Lamar was not the first FCS team to beat a ranked FBS opponent. This in no way a blemish to the accomplishment, we were still a much smaller less notable school beating up on a ranked opponent, we just didn't get the FCS classification until the following year. A technicality yes but one that should be noted. If any of you're wondering what this post is about: Lamar defeated #20 Baylor in 1981. The only time to any of our knowledge that Lamar has done so in Football. But we did not defeat Baylor while we were in the FCS we didn't get re-classified unti…

Got text tonight from someone telling me about another potential player wanted to come to LU. I won't give up the name yet but I will say he plays an impact position, was originally a Big12 recruit and a pretty highly ranked rivals recruit out of high school. I'll leave it at that because this is seriously only a weak rumor at this point, nothing official.

BEAUMONT - Lamar University enjoyed a triumphant return to the gridiron in 2010, finishing with a 5-6 record playing as a Football Championship Subdivision independent. This year, the pressure will be ratcheted up as a Southland Conference title is on the line. As is often the case in football, many games come down to the work of the deep snapper, the holder, the punter and the placekicker. LU special teams coach Brian Mayper is pleased to have his entire group back for this season, with most of the key roles being filled by sophomores who will be together for three more seasons. Only senior wide receiver Marcus Jackson, who serves as the holder, will not be back be…

Anthony Oden will be a red-shirt sophomore eligibility wise but he has been a college student for a few years. Remember, his brother is Greg Oden of the NBA. What I'm getting at is he may want to live off campus in a house or apartment. That would give Lamar another full-scholarship to give. I read in the Beaumont Enterprise we had 1.5 scholarships available. If Oden just wants his tution, books and possible meal plan covered that leaves some money for another player. What are some of your thoughts?

According to Phil Steele's FCS magazine Lamar's special teams unit is in the top 40 in FCS. There are well over 100 FCS schools around the nation. This also makes us the 3rd best in the SLC. LINK: http://katfans.com/newforum/index.php?topic=2747.msg26940;boardseen#new This comes from a formula so there is statistical truth to it. Still, I'm shocked we're that high.

    1. QB's they had 6 suited out tonight I think. Harrison Tatum, Dionte Forney, Doug Prewitt, Jeremy Johnson, Andre Bevil adn Caleb Berry. Bevil, Prewitt and Johnson got the majority of the snaps. I thought all three looked good with Bevil connecting on some beautiful deep passes. I didnt see Tatum take a snap and don't know why he was in the green jersey. 2. The WR core is good. Those guys can make it look easy. 3. I expect the running game to be much improved. Garrett looks to be the real deal. 4. The O-line is big and could be getting bigger if Anthony Oden was there to do more than visit. Oden is huge and pairing him and Campbell at the tackle positi…
