BEAUMONT - Lamar University's 2011 football season will get its official kickoff Wednesday when players will report for a 3 p.m. meeting with the coaching staff, and those who have not yet taken their physicals will take those exams at that time. Coach Ray Woodard's team, the second to represent Lamar since the program was discontinued after the 1989 season, will conduct its first practice at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Practices will normally be at 7:30 p.m. on weekdays and at 9 a.m. on Saturdays. The Cardinals have only two, two-a-days practices scheduled, those being at 9 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 15 and Aug. 17. "It's going to be a really tough camp, isn't it?" quipped…

After more than two hours of drills at Provost Umphrey Stadium, Lamar football coach Ray Woodard weaved through a crowd of exhausted high school players and located Hamshire-Fannett defensive lineman Cameron Malveaux. Woodard slipped Malveaux a business card and told the player to call him soon. It was the first time Malveaux had any contact with the Lamar coaching staff. "Getting recognized by college coaches, it doesn't get better than that, to me at least," Malveaux said. Malveaux was one of more than 120 high school players that participated in Lamar's junior/senior football camp on July 23, which has become an important recruiting tool for both the athlete a…

It seems as though in the past month we have had alot of new people register accounts on this site but I haven't seen alot people actually post. Let me just say to all: Welcome to BRI and if you have any questions about Lamar athletics there are quite a few knowledgable people over here that would be more than happy to start up a discussion. In the mean time, thanks for joining and have fun.

I know that the WAC has DI hockey and in fact it is a hot topic on thier board. The Texas Wildcatters would draw anywhere from 3K to 5K per game and ford arena is still there. I think that LU generally draws better than any minor league team in the area. I believe it is very possible for LU to play hockey one day (if they would want to). I know many people were sad to see the Wildcatters go (I know I was). This could be in some sort of 10 year plan for LU if we joined the WAC just cause we are in the WAC. I am not saying it is in plan so don't get confused by what I am saying. I am just saying it is a possibility for LU. Thoughts?

http://blog.beaumontenterprise.com/inthecards/2011/02/17/south-dakota-ad-troubled-by-lamars-decision/ This is kind of stupid, I don't like that we dropped this game but why is their AD worried about it. If it's in the contract it's permissible

Just wanted to get a feel of the board. Are you only a Lamar fan? Do you follow the Aggies or Horns? Someone else? Obviously with my avatar I am a Longhorn fan. I did not attend the school because I joined the Air Force instead of going to school first. Wish there was a poll option. Is there a poll option? I hate polls anyway.

Per Jack at bobcat Report (Post 1): I got a new source today in Oklahoma. UCO coach Terry Evans will take the Lamar job - if offered - if he does not get hired at OU. As of 4 pm today no offers have been made and this guy thinks you're not going to offer until the OU job is filled. He also told me that the OU lead candidate is still in the tourney and might not even jump in the first place. Mizzou is still open and that may complicate things further. This is my first tidbit from this new guy so we will see what happens. Evans was given to me from someone else. Per Jack at bobcat Report (Post 2): Oh! I forgot to add something VERY important. Sorry, been busy. …

smith made a post about this last night but it got deleted with the change in soft wear. In a PM to me he stated it would be open to the public this year which would be great IMHO. I hope he'll re-post his message as it had valuable information.

We were and currently still are in the process of upgrading software on this site. One of the problems that I'm receiving emails about is deleted post. If this has happened to you know that we're sorry but I'm trying to get these updates done with the site online and not offline. We appreciate the participation so if you had a post deleted feel free to repost it. Hopefully I'll be done soon and all the bugs will be worked out. Thanks!!

Just click on the persons profile you'd like to PM and on the bottom left corner you'll see the PM button to send them a message. You can also see the Private Message tab on the bottom left of your profile or on the top right in your sign in box where it says "Private Messages" to see if you've received a PM. Theres also more features on your profile to utilize, like facebook, skype, twitter, and many more to use. Check them all out and remember that if something isnt working properly to let me know cause we are still in the process of fine tuning everything. Thanks Again, Mike

These are my thoughts on three hot topics surrounding the Lamar Athletic Department. None of this info is official but rather just how I feel certain things will go down as I sit here today. 1. The MBB hire will not be a big name. This may disappoint certain people but IMO I can't see Lamar opening up the pocket books to pay a big name guy in their current financial situation. Look no further than the football program to see how the university handled their most recent coaching hire. Woodard didn't demand as much as some of the other bigger names that were available but he's done a fine job to this point. If they do a good job finding a quality guy like they did …
