BigNasty92 Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 I hate to see anybody hurt but it caused Woodard To bust two redshirts. At least we'll see what Robinson and Morse can do, assuming that The OC will call a pass. Now that I've calmed down a tad... I saw ability tonight from both Robinson and Morse. I would imagine that the reason we saw Robinson first is because he's a walk-on and losing a redshirt on him didn't matter as much as burning Morse's redshirt year. Robinson looks like he needs to get a little bit more finesse and control with his passing. He definitely has a gun on him but it looked like he only has one speed on his passes... and that's balls out. Obviously the coaches knew that and, unfortunately, they weren't able to open up the passing game. Morse is definitely the real deal and really liked what I saw out of him tonight. The kid has a nice touch on the ball when he throws it. I believe once they saw we absolutely had to be able to open up the passing game to stand a chance of winning tonight, the only option was to bring Morse in... And the kid played well. I just can't believe that we have gotten this thin with injuries. I'm not sure, if you're an IC, what else you can do. I think the biggest challenge were are going to have the rest of the season is team morale. When times get rough, it only takes a couple of cancers in the lockerroom to start polluting everyone around them. I hope some players step up and police that crap themselves. If a kid can't get his attitude straight, I'd pack their shit up and get em gone. Can't have that BS going on right now or ever, really. We are really going to see what our guys and coaches are made of the rest of this season. Quote
Dracula Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Kudos to the defensive guys. They played tough and kept coming. The offensive problem is not the players. King , Krautz, and all the rest played with heart. It looks to me that this coaching staff has gone as far as they can. Good luck to them. Quote

coachacola Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 My guess Woodard stays another year because all the injuries give the AD cover for not firing him I'm also guessing the OC gets replaced because he can't stand pat after a 4-7 (or even a 5-6) season. Quote
Dracula Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 I hate saying this but I can't imagine the OC surviving this miserable offensive performance. Also, I can't see the AD getting rid of Woodard, and by extension others of his staff, because that would blow up the program and affect recruiting. Woodard replaces the OC and stays put for another year but you gotta know, that he knows, that he is on double secret probation. His hire for OC had better be a good one or next year will be his last. Quote
geezer Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Let's think back the fall of 2012. Lamar went 4-8 while struggling with who would be the quarterback. Berry was either third or fourth string and by the time the season ended the quarterback injury bug brought him to the have to play mode. He looked descent but the coaching staff didn't have enough confidence in him to move him to first string the next spring. 2013 Berry played in all 12 games but as I remember he alternated to start the season and only toward the last half of the season was the starter. 2014 Berry sets all kinds of records and expectations grow for the future but there isn't a solid quarterback to take his place. Last year the quarterback play was inconsistent but Harrington carried the load and if the defense had been able to keep up it's early performance Harrington might have been able to carry the team. This year I think Woodard and staff were counting on an improved defense and Harrington carrying the team with the running game while getting satisfactory performance from Earp, allowing Morse to redshirt and acclimate to the college game. I think that set in motion the run oriented game plans and as the injuries have occurred has closed up the playbook. Based on the little bit of the game I watched last night the will let Morse pass early in the game since they had to burn his redshirt and we will get a taste of what next year may look like. Quote

puddin tane Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 woodard has said he wants to run the ball. after earp was injured he said he was gonna be a run first offense. woodard wants to run, period. pack his crap. Quote
puddin tane Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 I wish we had this year's defense with last year's offense. i wish we had the offense of any of the first 5 years Quote
LU17 Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 2/15 on third down conversions...unbelievable. I was surprised the time of possession was so close with all the three and outs. It seems like the defense was on the field the entire second half. I guess if you run the ball on all three downs, it burns up the clock. Did it seem like the coaching staff was just killing time with our offense, hoping that the defense could score or special teams could return a punt. I felt like we were counting on a pick six, fumble return, or punt return, but not an offensive touchdown. Quote

WOODARD SUCKS Quote

Who was the OC in 2014, when Berry and the offense was setting all those passing records? Who replaced that OC and what has the offensive output been since. It can't be a coincidence two years in a row. Quote
geezer Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Kueck was the OC and prior to Berry's record season a lot of posters complained about the lack of a passing attack. Last two years the QB play has been inconsistent at best. Woodard might be like Les Miles and prefer to run over passing but you have to have a QB or be able to develop one which may be the real problem. Quote
coachacola Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 I don't think the receivers are that good this year. They've had some really good receivers in the paat like Mark Roberts. Quote
geezer Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 Agree that this years receiving core is probably not as good as some in the past but the QB has to get the ball to the spot for them to have a chance. Quote

Quote
Dracula Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 I don't think that they can develop a QB or a passing game to go with one. Quote
spoonbill Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 Woodard will probably get a pass due to injuries. They're down to a true freshman QB with a true freshman walkon as backup. True freshman RBs also. Someone needs to fall on the sword tho. Losing to HBU is unacceptable. My guess is the OC is toast. His play calling wouldn't make it in 22-5A. Run, run, and pass on 3rd and long is easily defended if you know it's coming. From what I've heard by the second half the HBU defense had figured out the offensive signals and verbage and it never changed. Easy to defend a play if you know it's coming. Krautz looks to be the real deal and Morse looked impressive in the little bit of playing time he was in. Hopefully the coaches keep morale up. The defense is much improved from last year. Quote
Dracula Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 From time to time, I catch part of Woodard's radio show on KLVI. I'm going to tune in to see how he explains this one. Quote
puddin tane Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 I wish we had this year's defense with last year's offense. just looked it up. the offense sucking so bad has people think the D is worth a damn. LU is ranked 118th in rushing defense. that sucks Quote
