Lamar men and women host SFA Saturday beginning with the women tipoff at one PM. Both games are big ones with the women tied for second in the conference one game back of McNeese. The men are a little further back of first place SFA and must win if they want a chance to climb back to the top or at least be in the top four when the conference tournament gets here.

Men's basketball takes on UNO in New Orleans this evening at 7PM. The Cards are currently on their longest winning streak of the season at three games and have a chance to sweep a pair of conference road games. Should be a tough game as UNO and Lamar were tied going into last Saturday's action with both teams playing one of the conference leaders. Lamar got a win and UNO lost a close game. Lamar will return home for four games after this one.

Cards get a win over HCU in Beaumont 64-56. Man, this team is hard to watch. HCU is in last place, but you would have thought Lamar was for the entire first half and into the second. First half Lamar was out scored, out rebounded, out hustled and committed more turnovers. That said Lamar was only down six at the half as neither team shot a good field goal percentage. In the second half, Rob Lee took over scoring wise with twenty-six second half points and a total of 31 to lead all scorers. Holifield made ten of his twelve points in the second half and Wilhite finished out the double figure scoring with ten points. Lamar was outrebounded by one for the game and had …

Both Lamar men and women get wins against UIW at home today. The ladies played this afternoon outscoring UIW in each of the first three quarters to get a 78-62 victory. The ladies were led by Wilson and Miner with 23 and 16 points perfectively. In the evening game the men got a 63-51 win in a game that was tighter than the final score reflected. East led the way for Lamar with 23 points and an archaistically low five rebounds. Lee and Holifield joined East in double figures with 13 and 11 points. Both teams played tough defense and kept the other from getting a lot of open looks.

Cards are in Lake Chuck to take on McNeese in the first men's basketball match up for this basketball season. The last two years the Cards have played McNeese tough but have come up short. It will take an excellent performance to get a win this evening, but Lamar may have enough pieces to pull it off if they come out really focused and ready to play from the opening tipoff. The emergence of Wilhite and Lowe in the scoring area can take some of the pressure off the bigger players. The one piece I think Lamar is still missing is the six five to six seven player that can drive to the basket and go up with the strength to score at the goal while absorbing fouls.

This is the first of the remaining twenty conference games and is all about seating for the conference tournament. Will Lamar come back looking like the team that opened the year or the one that closed out the non-conference portion with losses.

While we're the official underdog, what do y'all think about how the game will go? I think we have a decent shot. ACU is a strong team but the 1st Round is always a toss-up, since it's usually the week of Thanksgiving and those in the know are keenly aware that Thanksgiving Week for HS and College is a unique animal.

Men open SLC play at home against A&M CC. CC has a worse record but have played what appears to be a tougher non-conference slate so far. Their roster looks to be upper classmen heavy and a lot of transfers. Their record may be partially due to taking time to gel. Will have to wait and see what that translate to.
