Cards return to action December 30th against A&M San Antonio to restart after the Christmas break and close out their non-conference schedule. A victory will give Lamar a six and five non-conference schedule and over all seven and six record for the 2024 portion of the season. This game should give the Cards a good warm up to get ready for the rest of the conference season and starts the first of five straight home games. Tip off tomorrow is an hour earlier than normal with a 6 PM start.

So far this morning Lamar has signed eight freshmen for the early signing period. Two offensive linemen, one wide receiver, two defensive linemen and three defensive backs.

With a five-game winning streak, the Cards will travel to Lubbock Saturday for a noon contest with the Red Raiders. Their top four scorers are all transfers. Size wise it looks like the Cards match up reasonably well. It should be a very tough game for Lamar, but a win looks possible. It will take a supreme effort from every player.

Given the culture change and better results on the field, is it time for O'Malley to start talking to Rossomando about an extension- one that will keep him from wanting to interview for other jobs? I'm not saying another school will pluck him up after going 13-10 the first 2 years, the trajectory of the program makes it where an opening somewhere next year might get some tougher calls for his agent to return with "Coach Rossomando is grateful you appreciated his work enough to extend an offer to interview, but he's very happy at Lamar." Don't worry- I think Rice is going to first look at Clint Killough or K. C. Keeler, but Rosso has definitely earned, in my opin…

Women opening their season this morning against NAIA Texas A&M - San Antonio. Question for those that normally post, should we do individual game threads or just do this thread as a season running thread? Maybe as the season goes on there will be some games warranting an individual thread but my opinion is that it would be easier to keep up with just the one thread depending on how long it gets or how much activity is posted each game.

Hey everyone, With the rise of fan pages on Facebook and other social media platforms, it’s becoming more challenging to keep our website as the go-to destination for LU news and updates, so I’ve been brainstorming ways to drive more traffic to our page. In the past, we've had success with live practice reports, coach and player interviews, “Where Are They Now?” stories about successful local athletes and Lamar alumni, and engaging activities like pick'em contests. We even did a pregame football podcast before podcasts became mainstream! Now, I’m hoping to get feedback that will help strengthen our presence and build momentum. Please share your suggestions…

I'm not asking to shake things up as the current group is clearly in a groove. Also, Brooks knows far better than I do, so I'm not an armchair coach. That said, where has B.B. Knight been? I know he's a freshman, but what about Gambrell? Has anything happened in the process from getting on campus to present? All this has possibly been addressed on any or all of the broadcasts (I don't have ESPN+ and am tired of it being such a rip-off). I'm just wondering given the conference schedule coming up if utilizing more players and keeping fresh legs wouldn't help us go deeper into the conference tournament, etc.

Big decision for student-athletes that go the Junior College route. It was just decided that junior college years do not count against athletes' 4 years of NCAA eligibility. Given that they're just making up classification and years of eligibility on the NCAA level (oh, you stubbed your toe in practice in 1994 but didn't miss a game, we're giving you an extra year!), this makes sense. It also means these young men and women are going to get more coaching, a better chance to develop skills, and will hopefully improve the quality of product on the coach/field. It also means the 97% who don't go pro will have more education and are exposed to more opportunit…

Conference game two. UTRGV joins the SLC and brings another competitive program. RGV currently sitting at five and three with a conference win over SFA. Overall, their non-conference schedule looks tougher than Lamar's so this should be a tough game.

Men open the conference season at Corpus Christi tomorrow at 7 PM. Corpus has a 5-3 record but it is hard to compare the schedules. Maybe the tough non-conference schedule will prove to help Lamar.

  17. I wouldn’t advise taking that job, but I have to admit he did a good job at Sammy State. Will be interesting to see who they hire. They are 9-3 this year and headed to a no one cares bowl.

Men pick back up against Our Lady of the Lake at 6 PM this evening. I guess after five Div 1 losses it's time for another Non-D1 opponent to make everyone feel good. Problem is I don't see a clear win probability after today.

Cards take on Nicholls tomorrow at 3 PM in their final home game of the season. A win will place Lamar with a fourth-place finish in their own control and a shot at tie for third place depending on SFA's finish. A loss may push Lamar down to as far as eighth.

  20. Started by geezer,

Cards travel across the river to McNeese on Saturday for a 7 PM game. This will be the last game of the season and with a win Lamar will tie SFA for third place and a loss will move Lamar down to a tie for fifth place possibly with multiple teams. McNeese is sitting in the same place so add one more thing to the rivalry. Will it be a 7-5 season and the first time since the 1960's that Lamar has had two winning seasons in a row or a breakeven 6-6 and at least some disappointment compared to some expectations.

  21. Started by geezer,

Men open a three-game string of games in Akron Ohio this evening beginning with Akron University at 5 PM this evening. The Zips currently sit at 1-2 on the season with losses to Arkansas St and St Mary's. This is potentially a winnable game but will take a strong effort. The rest of the weekend includes an evening game tomorrow versus Alabama State and a Sunday morning game versus Omaha. My opinion a good weekend will be to win two and winning all three would be great.

  22. Another week of conference only contests. Unless Lamar would upset UIW this week the conference race is virtually over as UIW would be at 5-0 with games against SFA and Commerce left and little chance they would lose both of those. SLU takes on NWST which should be a win. Nicholls plays HCU and Commerce plays SFA.
