Looks like the board of regents are about to approve $2.5 million for football locker room renovations. The regents meet in a few weeks so we should get full details then. From the article: "The Lamar football program is set to receive a major upgrade after a $2.5 million renovation project was approved during a virtual meeting of the Texas State University System Planning and Construction Committee. The project still needs approval from the TSUS Board of Regents, which is scheduled to hold its quarterly meeting next Thursday and Friday." https://open.substack.com/pub/coryhoguesports/p/tsus-panel-backs-25-million-lamar?r=refbh&utm_medium=ios

While I don't think he's on the Committee, we know there's a lack of people who are focusing on projecting the bracket. 2025 FCS playoff bracket predictions entering the final month of the season | NCAA.com His projection is based on: 1) No slipping up against the two "should win" games AND also beating SELA 2) SFA winning out He put SFA as the #15 and Lamar as the #16. Like I said, it's not the be all, end all.... but it's a decent way to frame it that we know that if we win 3 of 4, we're probably in. I'd rather have the guys sweep and be in position to potentially get a bye.

In these times of unlimited transfers, Lamar has lost some of it's better players to other schools. While Terry Anderson and Alexis Marmolejos seem to being doing well enough, the name that stands out for me is Nate Calmese. He is with his fourth school in four years and starting for the ACC's Wake Forest. I'm glad that Coach Brooks brought these guys to Beaumont in the first place

Lamar men travel to UL Monroe for a 6:30 PM tip off tonight. ULM is currently 1-3 with there one win over a non-D1 opponent and a loss to fellow SLC member HCU. This is a perfect opportunity for Lamar to get a road win and get rid of the sour taste from the loss at TCU.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on this game ? Our defense and special teams should keep us in the game. I would love to see the offense open things up. Saturday can’t get here fast enough !

Rice is going to spend $120 million to downsize and modernize their stadium. 🏟️ I know LU doesn't have the money or the need to upgrade the stadium but it's fun to think about doing something similar. Capacity will be reduced to 30k.

Game time 3 PM Saturday. If you didn't recognize it when the schedule came out, by now you realize from the sometimes fans point of view the season rests on how Lamar competes over the next three weeks. The Cards blew the first big game with UIW but if they can win out then a playoff game is guaranteed and possibly a home game. To get to the point where there are more than 10,000 attending Lamar needs to close out this season strongly. SLU appears to be the best team in the conference not named Lamar, but they don't have to prove it by playing all of the top teams. Lamar needs to step up a notch in all aspects of the game.

Both the men and women play Big 12 opponents this evening. Women play at Kansas St with a 6:30 tip off and the men are at TCU for a 7:00 PM contest. Both are underdogs going into the contests. KSU was a top twenty women's squad last year so this should be a big challenge for the ladies. TCU was down last year and are 1-1 so far with a loss to fellow SLC member New Orleans.

Lamar Volleyball takes a three-set win over Prairie View in the home opener. Lamar took the individual sets 25-16, 25-18 and 25-21. Cardinals improve to two and three on the year with a three match round robin in New Orleans starting Friday with matches against Tulane, Southern and La Tech.

Men tip off today at 11 AM. Shouldn't be much more than a scrimmage, but you never know. Will be nice to watch how this team develops and where their strengths might be.

NW State is definitely down this year. Hope they get their program back on track soon. On paper, looks like an easy win. LU needs to come in and handle business the way they are supposed to and not play down to the competition. Anyone know the extent of the injury to McCown's left hand? I think we are a better offensive team with him at QB.

To me, this is the most intriguing game so far this year because we truly don't know what UTRGV has. They filled their non-conference slate with a D-II team in Sul Ross State and a pair of NAIA schools sandwiching the Prairie View game. To me, this is a "don't look past them" game. We scheduled them for Homecoming- we need to treat them like a Homecoming opponent and beat them up. We have the big boys to wear them down; we just need to execute. I checked the VS simulator and they have us at about a 58% chance of winning.

Lamar goes on the road for its second conference game. ET presents another unknown when it comes to the quality of their team. Currently they are 1-4 with all of their losses in the non-conference. The losses are all to teams with winning records and two of them are FBS top 20 teams. They defeated Northwestern St on the road for their conference opener. Game time is 6 PM Saturday. I don't think there will be any easy games in conference this year.

LU is sitting at 5-1, all wins against FCS opponents. The schedule has been relatively easy but they only had one easy win against Texas Southern. Next 6 games look to be a lot tougher. I think they'll be lucky to end up 7-5. I predict they'll go 2-4, losing to a team they should beat and beating someone they should lose to.

Why is Lamar still in the Texas State University system? Our university doesn't have anything in common without so called sister schools. None of them have engineering programs. And the system has kept it's promise to have a University system of equals, especially letting SWT change its name. If we're going to be mistreated and over looked, I'd rather do it in the UT or A&M system. A&M just took over UH Victoria. TSU is a terrible university system. We need to get out.

Where is everybody? Big game to open conference! A win would be great momentum and further progress toward being a top 25 FCS program. Big question is who will start at QB?

It's almost game day and Lamar enters this week with a positive record against quality opponents. While Nicholls is on a four-game losing streak, two of the losses are to FBS squads. Nicholls defeated UIW in their first game of the year so they should still be a tough match. Game time is 3 PM Saturday the 4th.

Lamar comes off of its bye week to face Central Arkansas. UCA sits at 1-3 with losses to Missouri, Tarleton State and Sacramento State and a win over Arkansas Pine Bluff. This looks like a prove that LU can be a contender game. Both Lamar and UCA have wins over a SWAC opponent and at this point in the season it is still hard to compare the other opponents except by national ranking. It would appear that Lamar has the advantage, but the Cards still need to prove it on the field. Game time is 6 PM this Saturday.
