I'm not optimistic this week. I thought we would show up last week in Denton and make things interesting. Several FCS outlets picked us as a sleeper FBS upset pick. Now we face one of the top teams in our division and I'm thinking that South Dakota can name their score. I'm pretty sure they would have beat North Texas. Am I wrong? Why aren't we better? Why have lessor schools with less DI history have passed us while we more in less than mediocrity? Sorry to vent. I'm just tired of terrible results.

Time to kick off the 2025 season. Lamar getting paid 350k to play the mean green. I expect a competitive game and hopefully we can keep it close like the Texas st game was last year. I got Lamar 20 and Unt 31.

Soccer opened the year with the first official game of the year at UL-L with a 4-1 loss. Their next game will be at Texas A&M this Sunday. Soccer will have four games completed before Volleyball or football play their first games.

Players Report to Camp, Football Season Has Returned - Lamar University Athletics Fall camp is officially here and now is time for the team to prove they can continue to build into a consistently strong program. There should be several goals for this season, first a third consecutive winning season, second a playoff berth and third a conference championship. You can argue that number three should be first but if you are still building then you need the first two.

Lamar website has an article about the Men's team going to Puerto Rico for some exhibition games the next three days. Does anyone know if any of these games are available to view?

The Cards were picked 4th in the Preseason Southland Poll. All the pundits are buying what Rosso is selling and are basically saying version of, "they have the highest ceiling of anyone in conference." While it hurt for them to point out the SE Louisiana loss kicked them out of the playoffs, it is encouraging to think "We were a missed FG from getting that win." What do you feel the 2025 football season will look like? Definitely going to catch more games this year. My life is less complicated in the fall... so I need to invest my time well.

https://www.wholehogsports.com/news/2025/jul/06/lamar-transfer-outfielder-damian-ruiz-commits-to-arkansas-baseball/ This is the world we live in, the world of the transfer portal. I guess we should be happy that we have the type of talent that one of the top programs in the country wants. Hate to lose him but we did get him through the transfer portal (Houston Christian)

Lamar MBB announced the signing of Quinton Sanders from Houston Wheatley. I tend to discount press clipping with "nobody signs bad players" but this guy looks like he could be special. https://lamarcardinals.com/news/2025/6/5/mens-basketball-cardinals-add-scoring-punch-in-quinton-sanders.aspx

Cards have a good opening weekend winning three games before falling to UT. Even in the UT game Lamar managed to get out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second and held the lead through the third inning before Texas got a home run in the top of the fourth to tie the game. Texas added two in the fifth, three in the sixth and seven in the seventh to fall behind 13-1. Lamar manages to score six runs in the bottom of the seventh against the third and fourth pitchers of the game for Texas but still fall 13-7. Overall, a successful weekend for the Cards.

Hadn't gotten to look into our men's basketball signees until now. These young Cardinals are going to light up the scoreboard while playing Coach Brooks' brand of defense. Now, just have to keep them from flying the coop so they can fly high with into the postseason.
