  1. I think with RGV breaking into the top 25 there is a strong chance that a 9-3 Lamar could still make it to the playoffs as a third SLC school. Lamar has the victory over South Dakota and although their record does not show it UIW is still a very dangerous team as shown by their wins over Big Sky fourth place school Eastern Washington and UAC second place Abilene Christian.
  2. UIW outscores RGV in the second half but the hole was too deep. Cards better be ready as UIW has an explosive passing offense.
  3. Half time in both of the late games. ETAM and SFA are tied, but it looks like SFA is beginning to take control. RGV is up 35-0 over UIW. Next weeks game is very scary as I believe UIW is capable of putting together a really good game against anybody and it will be just Lamar's luck that they do so next week.
  4. Lamar wins 41-14. Cards finish with 256 yards rushing and 177 yards passing. Defense holds to NWST to just 23 yards rushing. Good win for LU now to focus and play well against UIW.
  5. Lamar using almost all second teamers now on defense also.
  6. Second string execute a solid drive ending with another rushing touchdown. Lamar now up 41-14.
  7. Cards bring in the back up quarterback Powell for the upcoming drive. Actually, the Cards have brought in a lot off back ups for this possession.
  8. Demons hit a 78-yard pass with 9:15 left in the game to close the gap to 34-14. Lamar defender fell down just as the pass arrived. Cards pass defense needs to improve.
  9. End of the third quarter with Lamar up 24-7.
  10. First half stats for Lamar 123 yards passing and 136 yards rushing. NWST stats 172 yards passing and -21 yards rushing.
  11. Cards engineer a successful 10 play 87-yard drive for a touchdown pass to Fusilier with 21 seconds left in the half to extend the lead to 17-7.
  12. Lamar responds with a quick drive to retake the lead on a Xavier Coleman thirty-five-yard run. 11:26 left in the first half. Hopefully the Cards are awake now and will kick butt now. Lamar up 10-7.
  13. Disappointing since that first possession. Lamar has two three and outs and the defense has some errors allowing NWST to score a touchdown to take the lead at the start of the second quarter. 7-3.
  14. Cards stop NWST on their first possession then move down the field to get stopped by a penalty and a sack. Kick a field goal for the early 3-0 lead. Coleman started at QB, don't know if McCown is available or not.
  15. Game note: Latest article on the university website indicates that the game time is moved up to 2 PM due to weather threats.
  16. I like the mix of transfers and freshman along with the red shirts this year. Recruiting appears to have kept the average height similar to last year, but one of the big men needs to step up to fill in for Hamilton's presence inside. I'm not worried about the scoring that was lost.
  17. One other thing, the SLC has to play and defeat both Big Sky and Missouri Valley Football Conference teams in the future.
  18. Lamar needs to win period, but Lamar might have a chance at 9-3 depending on who the losses are to. South Dakota currently is in fourth place in their conference, and I am pretty sure if the stay in that spot they will get an invite and since Lamar defeated them it will be a lot of disrespect to both Lamar and the conference if they got in and Lamar didn't with the same records.
  19. Let's hope they live up to the early hype.
  20. Agreed, but with a caveat that four of the five wins are against teams with a worse conference record than the Cards. Still believe the coach is making progress and should be rewarded.
  21. ETAM defeated UIW 52-45 in San Antonio. UIW isn't what they have been the past few years, but they are still dangerous. Next up for Lamar is Northwestern St. NWST looks to be the worst team in the conference, but Lamar hasn't had much success at their place since restarting the program.
  22. Glad I wasn't able to watch the second half.
  23. Woodard closes out the half with a 52-yard field goal for a 20-7 halftime lead. McCown has 186 yards passing to go with rushing attack for 97 yards.
  24. RGV answers the last Lamar touchdown with a nice drive and a touchdown of their own with two minutes left in the half to narrow the gap to 17-7.
  25. Cards defense continues to stop RGV and the offense continues to move the ball well getting another passing touchdown from McCown to Fusilier to extend the lead further to17-0 with 7:01 left in the half.
