  1. Lamar women stepped out of conference against Prairie View A&M this evening Dec 17th and win going away 72-59. Lamar started out strong and were on their way to a potential blowout before Denly went out with an ankle injury. To add insult to the injury Taylor also went down with an injury early in the second quarter. With neither Denley or Taylor in the game for most of the second quarter PV was able to trim the Lamar lead to two points at the half. Taylor was able to return in the second half, and her presence enabled Lamar to again take control even though she really wasn't 100%. Cards win 72-59.
  2. Cards play better in the second half but nowhere near good enough to make a comeback. Final score RGV 83- Lamar 72.
  3. Lamar down fifteen at the half, 49-34. You have to hope RGV will start missing some three pointers but for the first half they shot 75% from deep compared to 16.7% for Lamar. Holifield is 0-3 and Lee is 1-5.
  4. Lamar off to another crappy start. Can't run a half-court offense that gets a clean shot, can't defend well enough either inside or out. Brooks starting lineup doesn't have five players that can score. Cards down 25-12 at the under twelve-minute timeout.
  5. Men host UTRGV at 6 pm this evening. Both teams are looking for their first conference win.
  6. Lamar women played their second conference game at home against A&M CC this evening winning by a final of 77-49. Cardinals had three players in double figures and scored 20 and 25 points in the final two quarters to win by a wide margin after a tight game in the first half.
  7. Montana State takes down SFA 41-21.
  8. Surprise SFA goes 75 yards in six plays to get a score before the end of the first half and then receive the opening kickoff of the third quarter and go on a twelve play drive to close the gap to ten points.
  9. Montana State smokin SFA in the quarter final game. SFA has three turnovers and MSU has three touchdowns off of the turnovers. MSU up 24-0 with a minute and a half left in the first half.
  10. At least the acceptable expectations for Lamar men's basketball are elevated. Realistically they have lost one game they should have won, maybe two. The loss to CC hurts. What Lamar does next Tuesday versus UTRGV is the opportunity to really get on track.
  11. Cards fall by eighteen at SDSU 89-71.
  12. 7:28 left in the game with SDSU up by twenty 78-58. Lamar has cooled off so far this half only shooting 33%.
  13. SDSU opens the second half with a 10-2 run over the first five minutes. Lamar has returned cold from distance missing five three pointers.
  14. Cards are down by ten points at the half 51-41. SDSU is leading the rebounding 22-12 and have five less fouls. Seems like SDSU is getting home court officiating. Bright spot far for Lamar is three-point shooting, making 10 of 22 attempts. The scoring difference is at the free throw line where SDSU has twenty attempts to Lamar's nine and have seventeen makes to Lamar's nine.
  15. At the under eight-minute time out SDSU has moved out to a five-point lead 30-25. SDSU is currently doubling Lamar in rebounds.
  16. Through eight minutes of play the game is tied at 17. Both teams are playing very aggressively on defense to this point.
  17. The difference between the A's at the time and Lamar is that the A's were winning the west. Lamar has to win the conference to improve all of the players stock. I hope Lamar is able to go find / get the FBS players out of the portal that want to play and fill the holes where an improvement in quality and experience will really raise the teams performance..
  18. FCS has been MVFC and Big Sky for multiple years and the Big Sky looks to be in control this year with all three of their qualifiers entering the quarter finals.
  19. Cards fall by eight points as they only score three points over the last few minutes. CC 57 - Lamar 49
  20. CC came out to start the second half and worked their way back to take a lead. Lamar got a little more back in sync to respond getting out to a seven point lead and at the under eight-minute timeout Lamar is up by six points 44-38. Looks like it's going to be a tight game as it heads toward the end.
  21. At the half Lamar has recovered and built a five-point lead 26-21. After their early hot shooting CC has cooled off and Lamar has warmed up some. Lamar has the edge in rebounds, the turnovers are even and Lamar has only three fouls. One question, is there something bothering Holifield tonight, he has only played ten minutes.
  22. At the first media timeout the Islanders have the early lead 10-2. Lamar is one for five shooting while CC is four for six including two three pointers.
  23. SFA survived and revenged their earlier loss to ACU. Will travel next week to play at Montana State.
  24. Both lines may be judged as good individually but particularly the offense doesn't consistently make the blocks necessary to run the ball whenever and wherever the coach wants. Just believe they have to get to another level to carry this program forward. Sometimes pass blocking can be that the quarterback is too slow in making his reads, but again I see too much inconsistency.
  25. Men open SLC play at home against A&M CC. CC has a worse record but have played what appears to be a tougher non-conference slate so far. Their roster looks to be upper classmen heavy and a lot of transfers. Their record may be partially due to taking time to gel. Will have to wait and see what that translate to.
