  1. Men start out very slowly, only four points in the first ten minutes of the game on 2-12 shooting. Lamar getting out played again against the last place team in the conference. Must turn this around quickly. Down 13-4.
  2. Ladies win by eighteen 83-65. Sabria Dean gets her five hundredth rebound to become the twelfth lady in Cardinal history to have at least 1000 points and five hundred rebounds. Davis ends the game with sixteen points and sixteen rebounds.
  3. Lamar outscores Lions by five points in the third quarter to take a 65-53 lead into the fourth quarter.
  4. Basically, an even game in the second quarter with ETAM outscoring Lamar by one, but with Lamar holding a 39-32 halftime lead. Lamar taking care of the ball fairly well with five turnovers but giving up too many three-point shots as ET has six made attempts.
  5. Ladies game starts out close for the first five minutes, but then the Cards take control for a 24-16 lead at the end of the first quarter.
  6. Women and men take on East Texas A&M this afternoon and evening. Ladies look to keep their clean conference record going and men look to improve their record. Ladies tipoff at 3 PM.
  7. Lamar gets another road win to climb to 5-3 in the conference 78-74. Lamar made their free throws down the stretch to get the win. Ironically Pennebaker who is one of the poorer free throw shooters made two critical ones and with the chance to give Lamar a six-point lead with under a minute left Holifield, one of the better free throw shooters misses two, but Lamar played good defense the last few minutes of the game. Lamar will return to action Saturday at home.
  8. At the final media time out the game is tied at 64 and Hamilton will be shooting a free throw for the front end of a one and one.
  9. Lamar down by two points at the half 37-35. Turnovers and key foul issues the big difference in the score. Cards have six first half turnovers and eleven fouls with nine of the eleven on the big men. Hamilton and Holifield only played eight and seven minutes respectively because of the fouls.
  10. Turnovers continue to prevent Lamar from developing a true lead. Cards have been up by as many as six points in the game so far but then the turnovers and Nicholls comes right back. Game tied 16-16 at the second media timeout.
  11. Cards got out to an early lead but then substituted and Nicholls scored the next five to tie up the game. Lamar got a three to take a three-point lead at the first media timeout.
  12. Early game start today, 1PM start time. Will Nicholls put on the pressure defense and can the Cards handle it? Looking back at the last three games, each opponent played really aggressive defense when they moved into the lead and Lamar committed turnovers. Lamar hasn't proved to have the players that can handle the pressure and especially handle the pressure and still score. No new news here.
  13. Men fall at McNeese 75-64. Bottom line, Lamar doesn't take care of the ball. Three straight losses and one common thread, too many turnovers. Makes it frustrating to watch.
  14. Ladies keep things going with a with 68-52 win over McNeese in Lake Charles.
  15. Lamar wins 67-53. Nicholls outscored Lamar by one point in the fourth quarter, but part of that was that the Cards obviously slowed down their offensive intensity and therefore did not get the same quality of shots that they got during the third quarter. Dean led the way with nineteen points, followed by Denley with thirteen and Taylor with ten.
  16. After three quarters the Cards lead 55-40. Davis played five minutes before picking up her third foul and helped get Lamar going with sound defense and her rebounding. When she went out Lamar kept building the lead and playing solid defense holding Nicholls to nine points for the quarter.
  17. Tough first half finds Lamar down three 31-28. Cards got out to an eight-point lead but then stalled out. Nicholls came back with a 9-2 run to take the lead at the end of the first quarter. Davis picked up two fouls in the first quarter, only playing about seven minutes of the half. Davis and Dean only have two points each only scoring from the free throw line.
  18. Alvin Brooks Receives Ben Jobe Award Mid-Season Honors - Lamar University Athletics While I see progress, I don't see Brooks being anywhere close to this level.
  19. Women play at Nicholls tonight with a 6:30 PM tipoff.
  20. Well at least next Saturday whatever happens it will be against a good team. McNeese should win by twenty.
  21. First half was very similar to the SFA game. Up by a substantial margin then playing sloppily and losing the early lead. Game tied at the half.
  22. I've watched for years at all levels and so many times the extremely aggressive man to man defensive teams seem to get the breaks especially when the game is called on the loose side, even to the point that the less aggressive team gets called for fouls that the more aggressive team isn't called. Oh well, the bad news is the Cards really don't have any off time for coaches to try to address in practice mistakes made, good news is the Cards get a chance to get the bad loss out of their system with a win Monday evening in the last game of this homestand. The Cards take on UNO at 7PM. UNO is at the bottom of the conference standings.
  23. Lamar came back a little but, in the end, made too many mistakes. Lumberjacks played like they always do, with extreme aggressiveness on defense and get the breaks. Final score 72-63. Lamar has one more home game on Monday with UNO to get back on the winning track before going back on the road.
  24. SFA opens the second half with an eight-point run to take a three-point lead in the first two minutes. Lamar takes a timeout, hopefully Brooks can settle the Cards down and get this turned around.
  25. SFA goes on a 9-0 run to close the gap. Lamar ends the half up five 37-32.
