  1. As the day ends UIW is in the driver's seat for the championship sitting at 5-0 with games left at SFA and Commerce. They should be favored in both of those games but as long as they win one of the two, they will get the berth to the playoffs. SLU buried NWST and has one conference game left guaranteeing themselves of second place. SFA lost to Commerce so the next six teams all have three conference losses. HCU defeated Nicholls. With today's results both of Lamar's remaining games have significance as if they win both Lamar can still finish third.
  2. Lamar commits another turnover in the second half and the Lamar offense can't keep up with UIW. Final score UIW 40 - Lamar 20. Didn't help that Coleman got hurt. Lamar had more passing attempts than rushing plays. Two games remaining this year.
  3. Volleyball gets another five-set win over McNeese to get to 14-12 on the season and 6-8 in conference with a chance to finish .500 in the conference, Two matches next week on the road at McNeese and then Nicholls.
  4. UIW makes a good last minute drive to get a field goal as time runs out in the half to take a 20-13 lead into the half. UIW will have the ball to start the second half.
  5. Lamar defense creates a fumble for UIW with just under two minutes left in the half at the UIW 14-yard line. Lamar converts the turnover into a touchdown with 52 seconds left in the half to draw within four points as the fail to convert the extra point Score 17-13 UIW on top.
  6. Lamar starts a decent drive but fumbles again at the UIW 47 yard line. We'll see if the defense can hold again.
  7. UIW responds with a three play seventy-five-yard touchdown drive. Lamar fumbles the kickoff return but then holds UIW without a score.
  8. Lamar scores with a touchdown pass with 6:08 left in the first quarter to take a 7-3 lead. Something weird today, Lamar has only run the ball twice and Coleman has only missed one pass attempt.
  9. Lamar plays at UIW Saturday at 2 PM. Do the Cards have a chance to pull an upset?
  10. Another week of conference only contests. Unless Lamar would upset UIW this week the conference race is virtually over as UIW would be at 5-0 with games against SFA and Commerce left and little chance they would lose both of those. SLU takes on NWST which should be a win. Nicholls plays HCU and Commerce plays SFA.
  11. Volleyball defeated Nicholls in a five set match to improve the conference record to 5-8 and put an overall winning record and a position in the conference tournament in reach with three matches remaining two with McNeese and a repeat meeting with Nicholls.
  12. Somewhat disappointing soccer season comes to an end with a loss in the opening round of the conference tournament.
  13. Final score Lamar 113 - PQ 42. This is the kind of win you hope for when playing a lower division school. Defense played ok, but what was the caliber of the competition. Everyone that was suited up played and all scored. Lamar had six players in double figures, led by 20 from Holifield. White had fourteen rebounds. Cards had eight turnovers total for the night.
  14. Not sure, he had played a little but it's hard to say if the new guys are better right now. As lopsided as this game is it is hard to say what the caliber of the Lamar newcomers are.
  15. Lamar up by thirty at the half 53-23. Beaumont native Holifield is leading all scorers with fifteen points including three three-pointers. Marmolejos another newcomer has twelve points. Only four turnovers in the first half.
  16. Hamilton entered the game with 12:39 left in the first half.
  17. Errol White and Bulajic were the only two returners to start the game. Pennebaker is out with an injury and Hamilton is questionable. Grambrell the freshman scoring guard out of Houston is also unavailable.
  18. Men open the record this evening against NAIA school Paul Quinn. Tip of is at 7 PM.
  19. Ladies win 98-62. Solid win to open the season before heading for road games against power conference teams Texas and SMU.
  20. Ladies added three players to replace three that either graduated or left. Two of the three new players have played significant minutes with both transfer Justice Ross and true freshman Kamryn Wilson providing both scoring and defense.
  21. Lady Cards up by 24 at the half.
  22. Women opening their season this morning against NAIA Texas A&M - San Antonio. Question for those that normally post, should we do individual game threads or just do this thread as a season running thread? Maybe as the season goes on there will be some games warranting an individual thread but my opinion is that it would be easier to keep up with just the one thread depending on how long it gets or how much activity is posted each game.
  23. As a senior, at least the second one shouldn't happen. He probably could have gotten a first down had he just continued running.
  24. UIW defeated HCU 45-20 SFA defeated Nicholls 28-12 McNeese defeated Commerce 31-3 And Lamar falls.
  25. It's just my opinion, but I think Lamar's biggest problem and that includes at least in part coaching is that they have put to much emphasis on a dual threat quarterback that is a runner first. The only year Lamar was really successful was with Caleb Berry and he was a throwing quarterback that could run if he had too. Fortunately, he didn't have to on a regular base as Harrington took care of that. With the running backs that Lamar has now they shouldn't need the quarterback to run, but they do need him to make good decisions and be an effective passer.
